I was told once I was there that like any other City, there are good areas and bad areas. I was also quite recommended to not go clubbing on the nights. Apart from that, during the day we went to restaurants and even walked on the streets and the food was great, and we didn't see or felt any danger.
I believe Matamoros is a place where you go to do what you need to do, stay a few days, and then come back. At least at this point in time.
We didn't visit it any beaches, we did try awesome seafood.

I have never encountered anything disturbing there. more druggies and tranients where i live than what i see walking around Matamoros . Street light in El Centro .and having street signs make it easy to find places . nice parks and historical places honoring Texas and US , Mexico relations over the centuries , Museums , Galleries and Murals and Art , The streets were clean.

Great Hotel - Close to the MX/USA Border, Secure, Clean, Very comfortable bed/pillows, excellent shower with plenty of hot water, Professional-Welcoming Staff. The breakfast included is not a full breakfast-Contenitial yet filling.

When I want to get out and do something new, I go to Matamoros to have real food and do few shopping at better prices. Everyone I met was very nice and polite. I have no complain about anything in Matamoros. It great to stay in the Zona Centro where you can probably walk to different places for shopping, drink, or eat.

Matamoros has a nice beach only a few miles away.
Matamoros has a nice beach only a few miles away. Feel like I can drive everyday. Downtown is very large and can shop all day there. Several restaurants with delicious food and pricing is excellent. Couldn't believe 3 of my family members had dinner at a seafood restaurant and it was less than $30.

the people were friendly, got to go the the movies which was pretty fun, walked around near our hotel to the plaza, church and outdoor market... it is mexico, so always have your guard up and be aware of your surroundings...
