It was wonderful to stay in a traditional colonial Mexican home. Lily, the manager was great and when our taxi didn’t show she gave us a ride 😀

Mascota is a beautiful little town, surrounded by nature.
Mascota is a beautiful little town, surrounded by nature. The restaurants are fantastic and plentiful for such a small town. The local residents are really helpful and favourable to tourism. Would recommend an overnight trip. You can visit everything on foot.

Mascota and the region are quite interesting.
Mascota and the region are quite interesting. There are a fair number of things to do and see in the area, but you need to work a bit to find them. Roads can be absolutely insane, but they're worth it for the views in some areas. People were generally friendly; a bit cautious until you greet them with a few words in Spanish. You should really know some Spanish before exploring the area. Signage is limited generally, and you cannot always rely on Google.

Mascota and the surrounding mountain areas are wonderful...
Mascota and the surrounding mountain areas are wonderful places to explore. It is well deserving of its selection as one of the Pueblos Mágicos of Mexico. I would advise an SUV if making a side trip up into to the mountains to visit the villages of Yuerba Buena, Cimmaron, Navidad, Juanacatlán, etc. because the roads can be rough, especially if driving all the way up to the Laguna de Juanacatlán.

Though we were able to spend the night, in a lovely hotel (...
Though we were able to spend the night, in a lovely hotel (Santa Lucia) not far from the plaza, we could easily have spent more time. A very warm and inviting place, with a clear charm, a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta (which we also love and have been visiting for 30+ years). We had planned to venture out to YerbaBuena and Navidad, but decided to linger in Mascota instead.

The location was quite nice, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had our dog with us, and while there is a charge of 500 pesos, they were very welcoming and sweet with her. They also provided us with extra blankets (including one for her). The garden is lovely, and the room was clean and comfortable. Parking was easy (we ended up just parking on the street right in front of the hotel). We really enjoyed Mascota and the climb to the top of the hill the next day.
In the centre of Mascota this is a hacienda style hotel with a beautiful central terrace, helpful staff and basic, but comfy rooms. There is a tea/coffee and water station which was unusual and greatly appreciated. Our room was small, but fine for what we needed and great for our budget, and there are bigger rooms available. I recommend internal facing rooms if possible. Very relaxed and friendly. The village is lovely, with great places to eat and explore.
Absolutely beautiful hotel with great service, big room with a river view, very clean property and lovely location. The bed is extra comfy and the shower has unlimited hot water with unique hand made soap. We greatly enjoyed the complimentary tea and cookies in the evening in the courtyard by the fountain. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Really liked this quaint hotel. It is in the heart of Mascota, short walk to plaza, museum & temple of the precious blood. Mexican breakfast was across the street and good. Loved the court yard. The bed was good. Staff spoke very little english, but were helpful. Definitely good value for your money. I would recommend it. .
