Guerrero Negro is the halfway point down the Baja peninsula.

Guerrero Negro is the halfway point down the Baja peninsula. Coming from Mexicali, it is the first major motel option south of San Felipe (nothing much to see in San Felipe and the rooms are overpriced for what you get). It's a typical Baja town (fairly poor) but the people are friendly enough, there's plenty of local food options with a couple nice restaurants. There's whale watching (in season) and fishing. Tends to have a cool breeze coming off the Pacific which can make sun bathing uncomfortable and boating and adventure. We tend to see it as a place to overnight, refuel the vehicle, have a great dinner and get a good night's sleep.

I like Guerrero Negro, it a small place, at this time of year not so much touristic, it is well known of so called Salinera, or saltworks operations one of the biggest salt production in the world. We, with two of my friends booked a tour which was quite impressive to see how the salt is actually producing and how big the production areas it is. The place is calm, has it is own unique charm that somehow I like it very much. The place it is not particularly beautiful but it has something special. Combination of salt, wind and sand in the air.

We were passing through on our way from Cabo to the border so this was just an overnight stay. The town and the coast looked interesting. I believe it would be a good spot for whale watching. We had a blow out earlier in the day and needed a new tire. We also decided to replace the spare as it was very old. Found a tire store in town They mounted two new tires and moved one of the old tires to the spare in about 2o minutes time and fro a very reasonable price. Try that at a tire store in the US!

Since it's half way from the border to my destination in Todos Santos it is a reasonable place to spend the night. I like the restaurant at the Half way Inn and at Mallarimo. If you are spending time here go to the Whale Education area at Ojo de Liebre. I haven't done anything else of a recreational nature here. The Halfway Inn has excellent outdoor space for walking dogs.

Clean stay, staff walked the extra mile to male us feel welcome. Good hot water shower, convenient, good and reasonable priced restaurant at the hotel and good parking space - we traveled with a trailer and all worked out really well.

There's not a lot to choose from in Guerrero Negro so truthfully we didn't expect much. Our room was clean and comfortable for a one night stop. The restaurant however, was very good. A very pleasant surprise!
