The cabanas are high in the mountains. Beautiful area. Peaceful.
The wood burning stove kept the cabana comfortably warm. Earlier posts saying there's no heat are completely false!
The unpaved road was not a problem, even in the rainy season. I don't agree, at all, with earlier posts about the road requiring 4X4.
This property offers access to a balcony and free private parking. The property offers a 24-hour front desk.

The cabaña was very clean and cosy. Having a fireplace, with all the wood already set up, was lovely. A special thank you to the hosts who met us at a spot 20 minutes away (we went to the wrong place) and personally took us to the cabaña on their motorbike under the pouring rain. The location is great: you can walk to the village in about 20 minutes. Make sure to climb up the tree platform that's a dozen metres away from the accommodation's gate, on the left, on the path leading to the main road (it belongs to another cabaña though so you have to pay the guys a small fee).

Small wooden cabin rigth in the middle of the forest where you can enjoy a peaceful and quiet night. You can fire up a bonfire and brew a good coffee. If you are into mushrooms, you can get from local people and the cabin balcony is the prefect place to experiment.

A unique, interesting, and friendly little town. If you enjoy nature, you'll like this place. Don't miss out on experiencing a temazcal. Enjoying the area's well known magic mushrooms while trekking through one of the many nature trails was a great experience.

I noticed some other reviewers complained about the cold and also the remoteness and bumpy roads.
We stayed there in early January, and the temps were perfect. Warm during the day, cold at night, but not cold enough for a heavy coat--just a couple of layers. The stove was well stocked with firewood and it heated both floors of the place very nicely.
As for the remoteness, it's in the mountains! That's the beauty of it because the main road of the town far below is not that pretty. And there is a good system of tuk tuks that can handle you and your luggage. The local restaurant owner was always happy to call us a tuk tuk.
Yes, you have to use a central charging station because there are not outlets inside the cabins, but I enjoyed being off the grid and the solar lights worked great.
I think the people who complain want city life in a wilderness setting. You won't find that here. Instead you'll find peace and quiet, community too, if you want it, around a campfire.

I wish we had more than two nights here, to explore more. Lots of restaurants and places to walk. Walking along the road is not easy but not hard, just be careful and cross so you're not in the inside of a blind corner. The air's pretty thin at 8100 feet above sea level. We went up to the Mirador at 8600 feet, great view unless there's fog - which there is a lot!

Excellent location and attendants were very helpful.
Excellent location and attendants were very helpful. The shower did not have hot/warm water. The help tried to fix it several times but wasn't able to keep it working long enough for a decent shower. Also, 2 suggestions: more floor towels or rugs for bar feet. The nice attendant helped get our fire going. It was beautiful! In hindsight, we should have saved half the wood for the morning when it's the coldest. Wish they would have suggested that. The hikes were gorgeous. We really love the area and the location of the cabanas is superb.

San Jose del Pacifico, Oaxaca was a great little town, as you travel across the high sierra of Oaxaca. The views are fenomenal and the air is crisp and clean. The only draw back is the road is very windy, too many curves, but you are traveling along the edge of the mountains for the most part. So take some motionsickness medication if you are a passenger. Be ready for the long road. You will not be dissappointed.
