Villa Morena Boutique Hotel Ecoliving, hotel in Akumal

Offering an outdoor lagoon pool, B&B Villa Morena EcoLiving is a eco-friendly hotel powered by solar panels. located in Akumal, only 1.9 mi from the beachfront.

The Villa Morena was a wonderful surprise! All the staff and especially Vanessa were amazing! The food was so fresh! Homemade pasta for dinner was really a highlight for me. Make sure if you are interested in street art to go into Akumal and walk around. A couple of good coffee shops there and roasting lunch smelled delicious. Also book a massage that is given right on your private patio!

Panther Bay Boutique Hotel, hotel in Akumal

Panther Bay Boutique Hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a shared lounge and terrace in Akumal.

We did not stay at the Panther since it was overbooked (I reserved more than a month in advance) so they transferred us to another facility. Within minutes we were transferred again to vacant unknown mold ridden apartment that did not have hot running water, cable tv was not paid as if it was a vacant property under same management. After one night, the next morning the electricity was shut off due to the “owner” not paying 2 months of electricity. When I questioned the person shutting off the electricity he indicated that even if paid it would take 72 hours for it to be turned back on. We were transferred again to the second facility to spend our last night. My wife and I got sick at the mold infested apartment and had to cut short our vacation.

Unico Hotel Riviera Maya Adults Only, hotel in Akumal

Located in Akumal, a few steps from Kantenah Beach, Unico Hotel Riviera Maya Adults Only has accommodations with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a terrace.

We arrived at Unico ready to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and enjoy our first time in Mexico. We found all the restaurants to have different cuisine and very delicious. Our favorite was the 2087 restaurant and the room service. 2087 had great cocktail options and their choice of protein was of great variety. I had the porkchops one night and the steak another. Both were quite tender. I enjoyed ordering the shrimp ceviche and beef filete for lunch with in room dining. We found the resort to have a very unique and beautiful aesthetic and the lobby smell was to die for. They sell the essential oils and spray in the gift shop and highly recommend the purchase for your home! Going on an excursion was easy to get to and from the resort. We took a taxi to Tulum one day and paid in pesos because it was cheaper. ($120 pesos round trip for 3 hours) Housekeeping exceeded our expectations. They cleaned the room in the morning/early afternoon and then did a turn down service after dinner. They also restocked our fridge and snacks more than we could have asked for. I also found they would organize my sink items in a better way that we had them laid out. Lastly, the spa was fantastic. We paid $15 each to utilize their hydro package and found it was better than our couples massage we had earlier in the week. Highly recommend. The overall resort was very relaxing and calm. We have been to many party like resorts and this one is not that. We would definitely visits again!

Loved that the hotel was small and right on the beach. Dive shop next door was very good. We saw turtles , rays, barracuda, sharks , moray eels and a variety of reef fish . We also visited the Mayan ruins in nearby Tulum.

Beautiful beach but very busy with snorkelling tours.

Beautiful beach but very busy with snorkelling tours. You have to pay to enter the beach and there are lots of hotels along the front - it feels kind of snooty. There is no village to speak of - most people stay in their hotels to eat so the centre lacks atmosphere in the evenings. There are many more authentic Mexican places to visit on the coast - I would come to Akumal fo the day but stay in somewhere with more vibes: we much preferred Puerto Morelos (and that beach is stunning too).

I would not recommend Akumal as a destination.

I would not recommend Akumal as a destination. Too many tourists, and there are too many 'service providers' trying to sell you a tour, being your guide, or something else that you don't need, or would be overpaying for. The only fairly authentic beach place we encountered was the Xcacel beach. Almost all of the rest of the beach either belong to resorts or private properties. Headed off to El Cuyo, which is a totally different place.

Akuma is a small peaceful quite place, relaxing. Nice hotels and good locations at the beach and ocean. The down side is there no nearby anything. Either travel 25mins to Tulum or 45mins to Playa del Carmen.

Akumal is very nice. we loved the adult section.

Akumal is very nice. we loved the adult section. Some of the staff especially Guadalupe who is the hostess/greeter at the Kutuk buffet restaurant is not friendly to brown skinned guest and this is very unfortunate. If you go here please don't be afraid or hesitate to let guest services know about how you are being treated by any staff member.

The hotel is situated literally on the beach you have the ocean in 5 meters, it is amazing! Also they have a hammock on the terrace, very relaxing it was one of may favourite places) The room was very clean, no complaints about that eather. A lot of space, nice living room with a kitchen, where you have everything you need to prepare some meal. And like I said in the beginning - breathtaking view from the windows!

Great location and facilities, with lovely touches - we particularly liked the complimentary toiletries which have a lovely honey scent, and the opportunity to use the kayaks, which was great fun. The stretch of beach up to akumal is dominated by hotels and resorts so you won't get much of a feel for local culture - but in Akumal centro (not playa) there's a nice fruteria and less touristy amenities.

Basic room, mostly clean. Big enough and also space to put your things. Next to the main street. With a terracce facing the street. With table and two chairs and a fridge in the room. Bathroom is quite old and basic but ok. Central in the town with restaurants and supermarkets near by. But if you want to go to the beach it is 30min by foot. Good for one night if you want to stay in akumal.
