The adventure starts at base-camp, 45 minutes later, you are at the top. You can take the cable-car half-way, I always do. The Kyaikto hotel has different rooms located around the property. I personally like the rooms at the bottom of the walkway 'mountain view', but there are rooms at the top near the entrance. You are about 7 minutes 'gentle walk' to the main pagoda entrance steps and another 15 minutes to the actual Golden Rock.
