We stayed for 3 nights with our daughters (7 and 9 years old) and truly enjoyed the beauty of Gileemale Walawwa, the most delicious local food, playing a game or two of Carrom & cards on the stunning terrace of the upstairs rooms, meeting local gem miners, visiting the Buddist temple nearby and a dip in the river behind the house. We truly recommend staying at Gileemale if you want to get off the beaten tracks to relax.

Terrace Cinnamon View is an exceptional place with incredible views over the hill country from every room and balcony. Even at night we would leave the curtains open so that in the morning we could see the gentle, rolling landscape from our bed - a luxury!
The place is perfectly clean and decorated with taste and has a pretty pool. Rumesh and his team are lovely people - friendly, efficient and attentive to your every need. The meals taken on the large terrasse overlooking the mountain are delicious.

If you have an interest in the real, gritty Sri Lanka (particularly if the gem industry has appeal) then this town will afford endless stimulation.
