We were very impressed with the ruins of the ancient city. And we were stunned by the sophistication and scale of this long ago kingdom.
The Technology Museum was also superb.
We think everyone should go to Polannaruwa.

Ruins is one of the best experiences I have ever had.
Ruins is one of the best experiences I have ever had. The staff is very nice. The food, the rooms are amazing. I invite all local and foreign people to come here and have fun. Located outside the city, it is a quiet and pleasant place to stay. In all respects, Ruins is a beautiful hotel located in Polonnaruwa. I am thankful to all the employees including the management for helping to make my holiday beautiful.

The site seeing of historical places were the best.
The site seeing of historical places were the best. Most of the time we ate at the hotel and visited some locals and shared a meal with them. We hired a vehicle during the tour, This gave us the flexibility to get around. Net time I'll try to get there in the cooler months, mid December.

Lot of ancient locations and relics.
Lot of ancient locations and relics. Can gain much information about historical Polonnaruwa era of Sri Lanka. Spread is in close vicinity and can cover all areas even without a travel guide. My favourite places were Parakrama Samudraya, museum, King Parakramabahu's castle and office, Gal Viharaya, Thiwanka Pilima geya, Vatadage, Hetadage and Sathmahal Prasadaya.
There are places to eat in Polonnaruwa new town (Very close by). We dined at NS Tomatoes where the service was good.

It's worth making the effort to see the far northern and far...
It's worth making the effort to see the far northern and far southern area too.... and don't forget to check out the back roads in the quadrangle group. The site is full of tourists, but almost nobody at the above mentioned places.

Polonnaruwa has impressive archeological and historic areas...
Polonnaruwa has impressive archeological and historic areas which are in good conditions despite of the years. The Minneriya National Park, the Dambulla cave temple and the Sigiriya Rock are also near and it makes Polonnaruwa a perfect base to visit all of them. We would strongly recommend to others.

Gorgeous location overlooking the lake and directly across the street from the archeology museum. Attentive service. Fantastic Sri Lankan curry served in an Inviting dining room. Gracious service. Expert management who helped us hire great tuk tuk driver with excellent English for a late afternoon tour after the crowds had gone. This hotel was the high point of our trip to Sri Lanka so far.
I’m sooooo disappointed with they behaved on me and my friend because when we check in they’re asked full money I never expect like that … because we are travelled sooo many hospitality this is the 1st time when we check in they’re asked full money .. I asked them they’re are said this is our hotel rules .. but in booking.com they’re are never mentioned
The hotel s ambiance was inviting and the staff's genuine hospitality stood out. Every interaction felt personalized, making my stay truly special. I especially loved the room. It's really worth the price.. There is a great Swimming Pool here. The location is fantastic, just a 10min drive to Polonnaruwa town. The breakfast spread was also delightful.
We were very satisfied! Everything was organized to our satisfaction. Clean rooms and good food was absolutely available! Also the transfer to Arunga Bay with 5 hours was organized and carried out. I am "fully" enthusiastic about the hotel!
Clean rooms and bathrooms. Friendly, helpful host and good food. Bikes can be hired and brought to the home stay and you are over at Polonnaruwa within a few minutes.
