Ella Town centre is good for a night out. Quite a bit of a walk to the 'attractions '. The train ride would have been nice. I missed out on this.
Some of the bigger restaurants like 'Oak Ray' provided suboptimal drinks for a costly price whereas smaller cafes provided much better options for a cheaper price.
Really liked the cafe 'Kiri Kopi'. 'Chill' restaurant was superb.
Would have been nice to have all the three wheelers parked in a designated spot rather than along the street. This could have given the town a better overall look and will ease the congestion.

The ambience and vibe is great.
The ambience and vibe is great. I will definitely go again but will be staying around the city. There are plenty of good restaurants to eat around the city but if you are far from it, it'll be a problem to find a decent eatery.
By luxury bus it's a 4.30 Hour ride from Makubura (always book ahead of time), the train ride is about 9 hours long but the tickets are going fast, I was only able to book the return train trip.
Flying Ravana is a place to hangout and explore fun activities for any solo traveler. And there are plenty of pubs in the city.

All the hillsides round Ella are very steep and the...
All the hillsides round Ella are very steep and the buildings tend to be tall and narrow. If personal mobility is reduced, please look carefully to see if there is a lift to upper floors. Access to some hotels is also steep and difficult for vehicles.
For UK visitors, the trip to nine arch bridge is not worth the scrum of tuk tuks , people and cars. European railways have many similar viaducts.

La Mensa restaurant is going through a metamorphosis of design,it’s still the best Curry in Ella.You must do the 9 Arches Bridge,it is quite an experience.We are fortunate to have the funds to travel first class but I tell you honestly…Ella is a buzz with a huge amount of different travellers,travel on a 3rd class train from Ella -Colombo and you will understand that all we work and fight for in our world is pointless unless we enjoy eachothers company…We have been shown a new outlook on life.Thank You Sri Lanka.

the most amazing view , make sure to book the top floor room, the family who own the property are incredibly friendly and helpful (thank you). the stay had fairly basic facilities so don’t expect total luxury but if you’re looking for a very clean, comfortable stay with a friendly host and the most fantastic view - you must stay here! note it’s in a great location in Ella but the property is at the top of a fairly steep hill !

-The rooms are super modern and clean. The materials of furniture etc are carefully selected, you could easily describe it as boutique hotel.

Absolutely love the view & the boutique feel to the hotel. There are very few rooms and you feel like you have the whole hotel. Especially loved the pineapple smoothies- they were the best, ever! Restaurant was amazing, with spectacular views and food. Staff incredibly friendly
Amazing rooftop pool with great views of the waterfall and Ella rock. Nice room and spa on site. Hotel at the top of a very steep hill but they drive down to help you with your luggage.
A lovely boutique hotel located near Kitha Ella station. Dave and his staff couldn’t help us enough. Freshly renovated with a beautiful view over the train tracks.
