But a lot of buildings left on hold now half finished properly due to the Covid slowdown. Seems like Macau in the tropics

The whole city is a construction site, many abandoned, crowded buildings. Much of it is more China Town than Sihanoukville, full of chaotically located skyscraper casinos. The authentic one has been lost and that is a minus. The beach would be beautiful if it were cared for. It is degradation and abandonment, very high prices at European level. You don't really have anything to do in the city for more than a day.

Even the Cambodians refer to this city as a Chinese colony. Many of the restaurants have menus only in Chinese. The casinos (of which there are well over 100) do not admit native Cambodians. The tuktuks often don't even offer fares to non-Chinese foreigners. Sihanoukville is the place you go to get a boat to Koh Rong and other offshore islands. Don't plan to stay.

Sihanoukville is a stopping point for many travelers to get to and from the islands - that's all you should do here! If you can, travel on the same day, if you need to stay, don't expect too much. There are a lot of casinos and hotels, but they seem to be focused on other Asian tourists. If you want authentic Italian food go to Pappa Pippos in Otres Beach.

Big and sprawling city. Many hollow and derelict buildings and dirty. Only place in Cambodia where we had taxi drivers trying to overcharge or adding extras for luggage. Fixed prices are fixed prices. We got out of the taxi and ordered another one.

The area has changed drastically over the years.
The area has changed drastically over the years. Four years ago it was not a place to visit, but it is slowly improving. There is still a little seedy element/edge to it - but the roads are improving and there are some decent resorts - which if you are in need of the sea, it can fit the bill and with the new highway from Phnom Penh, you can get there in under 3 hours.

A beautiful hotel, quality equipment. lucky that it is a little out of the way on this jungle hill in this dying city.
Fortunately the hotel and services lack nothing.
It could probably need a little refreshing.
the hotel was great, however it is strongly discouraged for tourists to come to Sihanoukville.
Nice clean hotel with great staff and perfect location for catching the ferry to the islands and catching the train. The hotel has a small pool near the top floor with a sky bar but it can be windy up there.
Old building, refitted and everything worked well. quiet location slept well. Italian boss. best pizza I had in Cambodia. friendly staff. 750m off the Otres beach on a fast road. very clean
