The rooms were too basic. They didn't even provide bathroom sandals. I waited for almost 2 hours to be checked in, and that is because I complained about the waiting time being too long. There were cobwebs in the bathroom. For a place that has been in existence for a long time, the rooms look so old and unmaintained. They had a TV in the room, but it was a very tiny one and couldn't be switched on. The showers were old and rustic. The amount I paid was inclusive of breakfast, but the breakfast was just a joke and really wasn't a buffet breakfast as they had intially stated. You'd expect a wide range of dishes or maybe bitings but no, it was the bare minimum. Not to mention there were so many ants in the room, and on one day there was a millipede in our shower.

Very clean, quiet at night and well equipped with all utilities anyone would need. The host is very friendly and helpful. The place clearly surpassed our expectations.
Located at Kilifi Creek, just 3 km outside of town and surrounded by a community forest, Distant Relatives Ecolodge and Backpackers features a secluded beach area, a restaurant and outdoor pool.

A wonderful setting in a forested area with access to a little quiet beach. The rooms are sustainably made from renewable hardwood and other products. The showers are fashioned out of old tree trunks and the loo was compostable. There was a fan in our room but was sadly ineffective through the mosquito net and so we were very hot at night. We also stayed one night in a tent, the tents look very tired and ours didn't completely do up and there was nowhere to put your things and no fan so dreadfully hot.
The pool was filled with a mix of rainwater and council water and was beautiful. The bar/sitting area was thoughtfully designed and very attractive. Monkeys were everywhere but not a problem and great to watch.
The staff were lovely
