Deep in nature, right next to a river that you overlook from the bed room. Fitting for 4~6 people, very well equipped kitchen, homely feel in a very clean mountain cottage. The owner lives next door and even gave us a try in their Goemon bath which is a traditional Japanese bath heated by wood.
The drive up to the cottage is also amazing, it is a good 30 minute drive to the closest town but when in Yakushima, it’s an experience to stay in the mountain.
No problem with the Wifi, there is no service though so phone calls should be made before coming up the mountain.
Recommend to check in before the sunset.

It’s centrally located, walkable distance to the airport, had everything you needed to be comfortable and enjoy your stay (including a ton of resources on things to do and places to go in Yakushima). It’s also just really comfortable and really homey vibes.

It is like a home, with pretty much everything provided for you. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped. There is a kotatsu as well as a heater. There is a washer and dryer for a small fee. The TV has lots of channels and there are DVDs also, for those days when you’re stuck inside because of rain. I stayed there alone, but it could comfortably sleep 4 to 6 people. There is an A Coop grocery store about ten minutes away on foot, and they have a large selection. A steal for the price.

- just 10 min walk to the supermarket. There have a few restaurants nearby but not always open, better to reserve dinner at hostel. Also, you can order bento at hostel
- The host is nice and very helpful, he drives us to the nearest bus stop for go to Shiratani Unsuikyo, but a little bit difficult to communicate with English
- room is clean and tidy, share bathroom and wash room.
