The staffs were willing to help and explain everything until you understand. But communication in English might be difficult.
Kaiseiki meal for dinner was good and could complete your day nicely after a day-long hike. Also the bento boxes prepared by the hotel were really good and worth for money. They were very convenient if you had to go out super early in the morning like at 4 am. In addition, soap, shampoo and conditioner were very fragrant.

Mr Nakashima who runs the property is very friendly and helpful.
The property is kitted out with many convenient ammenities, like a stovetop, cutleries, back massager and even shoe dryer.
It was clean, comfortable and spacious, located in a convenient area. I rented a car which is recommended to get around yakushima, and parking next to the lodging is available.
There is a vending machine for instant food, snacks and drinks on the property.

Really nice little cabin with stunning ocean views! I loved spending evenings on the hammock outside. The beds were comfy, and the kettle and fridge came in handy. Also, the hosts were really lovely and gave us guidance for planning out activities. There's a bus stop just down the road which is useful for those without cars.

Hard to put it in short but it was outstanding. Arrive by fery from Kagoshima and took a flight back to Tokyo. 4 wonderful days full of hiking, nature, view, stunning waterfalls wildlife, forest with 2000 years old Cedars trees., beach, sand and more. We visited the island on Dec. It is off season so need to understand what this means. From one hand we were alone on all hiking, trails, outdoor onsen...just perfect. On the other hand, most coffee, restaurants are closed. You must make sure you either take hotel with meals or like use, a house we could cook in. And it was a big success.

Yakushima is a small Japanese Galapagos.
Yakushima is a small Japanese Galapagos. The 22km hike along the disused railway line to the cedar tree was incredible. Buy your bus tickets the day before at the information center outside the airport and get there early! We arrived at 4:45am to catch the bus and there was already a queue. Heaps of waterfalls to see and wildlife (deers and monkeys). The 15km one way drive along the west coast is amazing and nerve wrecking at the same time when another car approaches. Lots of reversing. Highly recommend but also note that it rains a lot which makes it a tropical paradise.

You really need to rent a car, and be sure to do so before your trip! Once I got there all the taxis were booked for the next few days and most every rental car was as well, I went to like 4 different places before finally finding a car. Totally changed my trip once I was driving around - I was nervous to drive on the left side for the first time (I'm American) but it was not bad at all! They go very slow there. Make sure you go to the ocean onsens on the south side of the island, that was one of my favorite parts! I went 4 nights which was enough to see almost everything I wanted, but I would've loved to spend more time there too. It was always my dream destination and I am so thankful to have gone, absolutely beautiful and totally different from the rest of Japan, or anywhere else I've ever been.

Lush, green, off the beaten track.
Lush, green, off the beaten track.
We loved the hiking, nature and kind people in Yakushima. Could have stayed longer than three nights to explore more trails.
Don't be afraid to eat a flying fish -- "wings" and all.
Renting a car makes it easier to get around, but we chose to stick with public transit, walking and taxi which was fine, if a bit limiting.

Amazing Jungle island to go on hikes and it has some gorgeous waterfalls especially in spring when the rain season is there. There are also some amazing beaches to chill across the island with great views

Yakushima is a beautiful island with amazing views.
Yakushima is a beautiful island with amazing views. The island is quiet and not touristy at all. Most things are closed on Sundays and don’t chose Yakushima if you want to go shopping or night life (it doesn’t exist). If you want great hiking, beautiful views and a touch of peace and quiet it’s a great place to go. Rent a car. Definitely worth it to tour the island and some of the inland roads (be warned they are very narrow and slow moving in many places, and you will need to reverse a lot for others to pass) It was a great way to see the island all its beauty and tons of monkeys.

It was very clean and quiet and comfortable. Our host Barbara was amazing. she was very hospitable and very friendly. We had a cracking view over the river. It’s close to a couple of beaches so you can find one for swimming and snorkelling. There are lots of cool fish! Will definitely stay again if we return to Yakushima.
An absolutely amazing place to stay in Miyanoura area. The room was very spacious and had everything you might need, and the traditional bath elevated the experience even further. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We hope to come back to Yakushima and to Sen-no-Ie in particular (¬‿¬)
The rooms were exceptional including all the amenities, 8 different teas was a treat. The natural water bath was excellent. Everything about the facilities (pool, sauna, restaurant, lounge) was top notch but it was the staff that really set the hotel apart, all incredibly helpful and friendly.
Lovely place to stay in Yakushima. Great hostel feeling where you can meet other travelers, Japanese and international.
Very kind hostess. She helps with an all the information you need.
Beautiful atmosphere genuine local. All equipped. Some essential information to tour the island at hand. Quiet and comfortable (just skip the western type bed and lay on the futons).
