Wonderful service, the staff was lovely and very attentive, especially when we struggled with Japanese. The buliding, the garden, the bath and the facilities were beautiful.

Bedclothes smelled fresh and clean. We slept reasonably well. A bit marmite : either you don't mind a bit of grubbiness ( apart from bedclothes) and like the good value or it feels too depressing.

We have a great time at this onsen hotel. All good especially staff!! The dinner was served beautifully and delicious with gorgeous sunset view. Our room was a corner and top floor with 2 tatami rooms and living room. We could totally relax and we are sad to leave. We walked around this small town and talk to some local people who are extremely kind and helpful. We definitely will go back there some day.

I came at the wrong time of year.

I came at the wrong time of year. Gassan was already closed, but it wasn't late enough in the season for momiji. The shuttle bus for Yudonosan only runs on weekends, so next time I'll have to rent a car. There are plenty of public baths and onsens to relax in after exploring the town and climbing mountains!!! I'll have to go again before they harvest the rice fields though. I bet the scenery will be beautiful!!!
