My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. This place is run by a couple who speak limited English but we managed with body language and translation apps. The location is further from the town center so it’s best to rent a car when staying there. Be sure the look out and follow the signs in Japanese for directions - Googlemaps was incorrect and sent us down dirt roads the first time. The wooden cabin was very cute and rustic, and we had a deck facing east towards the ocean, which made for a gorgeous sunrise one of the mornings we were awake for it. The air conditioning works well. The shower / bath tub and the toilet are well designed, and it is rare to be able to have a private bathroom for that price in Yakushima. It took us a while to get the hot water working the first night we arrived. It was 9pm at night and no one was at the reception, and since other appliances were turned off (like the mini fridge) my husband went outside to investigate if something needed to be turned on. When we finally got the boiler turned on the shower was very nice with good water pressure, and the deep bathtub was very nice for baths.
Just 15 minutes from Yakushima Airport on the free shuttle, Tashiro Annex offers air-conditioned Japanese rooms with a private bathroom and river or forest views.
Sudomari Minshuku Friend offers accommodations in Miyanoura, a 10-minute walk away from Miyanoura Bay of Kagoshima. Yakushima Airport is a 20-minute bus ride away.
