Wonderful stay host was so kind picking us up and taking us to local museum.Breakfast was large and delicious.Great night's sleep on really comfortable beds or you can choose a traditional Japanese guest room.We had a few sleepless nights in Tokyo so didn't try.Mashiko is a perfect location for pottery enthusiasts. There was so much to see.

The staff went above and beyond to be helpful despite the language difference. The young lady on the front desk could not have been more helpful. It was a short taxi ride out of town, but very manageable. Accomodation was dated but clean & quiet

Charming helpful staff, even took us to the station, as there were no taxis available! 4 cats and 4 kittens made our stay! Easy to get to the Museums and Pottery shops on foot. The accommodation building is old and interesting architecture, traditional sleeping quarters, beautiful communal living space. It isn’t meant to be luxurious, for the rate they charge- it’s fine.

You would need a car to make the most of Mashiko, but it is easy driving and google maps is your friend. Lovely sitting on the deck in the evening and hearing the sounds of nature. Very different to a hotel room, but that only added to its charm

I love pottery and ceramic art, so I enjoyed visiting the small museum and street of pottery shops. They have pottery festivals twice per year. There isn't much else to do besides visit the pottery street, and since it's so close to Utsunomiya, I'd recommend staying in Utsunomiya and renting a car for the day to visit Mashiko.
