Kutchan town is not the ski resort.
Kutchan town is not the ski resort. You have to take a 15-30 mins bus or taxi to nearby Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village or Annupuri resort, which makes up the "Niseko United" ski resort.
However, the town is a gateway. A few restaurants is around but they are a bit spread out. There's 2 tasty BBQ restaurant 10 minutes walk away.
The Kutchan train station is the gateway to/from Otaru and Sapporo. However, the train is a drag. An 1+ hour plus to Otaru and total 2 hours to Sapporo. Same for bus.
Public transportation is lacking at night time. Check schedule or prebook taxi is recommended during night hours.

Kutchan is a lovely city with friendly locals and widespread English proficiency, making communication easy. There are plenty of options for renting or purchasing snowboard gear, which is convenient for enthusiasts. Overall, I will definitely return to Kutchan.

The hotel was spotlessly clean, amazing cleaning staff. Great buffet breakfast, though pretty much identical every day. Great location next to Max Value (supermarket) and Daiso. Appreciated the in-room humidifier. Wonderful shuttle to and from the mountain. This is one of the few remaining affordable accommodation options in Niseko. Having first come in 2005, every trip I end up staying further and further out. However, as Niseko has westernised over the years, I much prefer the charm and real Japaneseness of Kutchan.
Located 5 mins walk from Niseko Grand welcome centre, tons of restaurants and rentals within walking distance, very convenient. A huge ski storage place in the hotel. Room is clean, spacious and en-suite with bathroom, and tatami is comfortable. The hotel itself has it’s own onsen which is good for relaxation/ shower after awhile day out skiing.
Breakfast is not too bad as well.
After snowboarding the whole day, it was nice to have a hot water kettle for water or tea. The kitchenette had everything we needed -- plates, napkins, utensils, and mugs. Also, Chromecast was nice to have when we just wanted to relax and enjoy Netflix. The water got hot quickly and the water pressure was great for showers. The room and hotel was very quiet.
The owner is very friendly . He picked up us at the bus stop and he droped us off to Hanazono ski resort that far from the hotel 5 minutes by car.We can see the mountain clearly next day.It is very beutiful.
I liked its central location opposite Kutchan Station. I liked how the dorms weren't just bunks like in Australia but were almost wooden pods with curtains.
