A business hotel a bit of a way from Kagoshima airport, but the only thing available after we missed the last flight. It was fine for our needs, good value, and close to some lively places for a drink or dinner. The breakfast was minimalist, but OK.

A cool hotel in the middle of nowhere with a own onsen. The room that I had (alone) was pretty spacious and was in a ryokan style room. The TV supports Youtube, Netflix etc. so you can easily chill for the evening.

Very clean, nice staff, good parking right out the front of our room, good wifi, good hot water, quiet location - until 8.30am (then there was a bit of noise from the army base across the road).

No-contact hotel. Checking-in quite intuitive using a tablet next to the main entrance. The only issue was that once we completed the check-in, there was no mention of the code needed to open the main hotel entrance. We rang the bell to get assistance from the shift manager, but there was no reply. In the end, we found a very helpful lady who shared with us the access code to the building.
Free parking space right next to the hotel.
Nice location by the river.

Standard APA accomodations, but we had a stinky smoking room which was tiny tiny tiny for two people and one tiny bed :/
I think APA does that: they book two people into a "double" then upsell you at the front desk to a bigger room.
They did that to us in Ryugoku Tokyo property also...

If you like nature, you must like Kirishima, which is beautiful and peaceful. When you climb up to the volcano, you will be amazed at the magic of nature. The local people can’t communicate with English but very patient and nice.

The hills North of Kirishima are full of interesting places to visit such as hot springs, shrines, waterfalls, farms (good for kids) and beautiful nature walks. It is peaceful, the people are utterly friendly, making it a very pleasant area to stay.
With little kids it's good for about 3-4 days, after which it would be recommended to spend time around Kagoshima or further South too, which have again plenty if interesting things to see, do, discover. Make sure that you have your own transportation, otherwise it'll either get expensive or very time consuming to get around.
Food is NEVER an issue. Even in the smallest town you'll be able to find excellent Japanese food with a large variety. Cleanliness is indisputable and even if language is a major issue for most Japanese, the friendly smile is always there and pictures do the rest.
We are a family of 4, with 6-years old twins and will definitely return to Kagoshima / Kirishima and its surroundings again. We had a great time there and look forward to a next trip!

The trekking, the waterfall, the food and the shrine. Everything you can experience around here is second to none in Japan. I am sure a lone traveller (like me) or a family or friends or couple will find the happiness here!

The luxuriant vegetation all around.
The luxuriant vegetation all around. The mountain trails both for driving and hiking gets you serenity that could make you forget about the sorrow and chores in the material world.. The gorgeous lakes. and the farmland. orchards and flower garden are all good. Food options around Krishima can also let you enjoy a lot.
The highlights of this stay:
1. Onsen directly in the room - amazing experience and an opportunity to enjoy warm bath with your other sex significant other. Really loved it.
2. The restaurant - the food for breakfast and for dinner was really good. I strongly recommend the peach wine on the rocks 💜
Overall we had a very nice and relaxed stay.
The staffs were very friendly and the location was reasonable to find with public transportation.
Our room was facing the forest so it was very peaceful and quiet.
And the dinner menu was never-ending, so we really felt like they put a lot of effort in the service!
The riverside onsen was such a special experience as well!
Yuki was a wonderful host and the house was comfortable and very clean. It was a brilliant glimpse into Japanese life and our evening conversation was one to remember! A generous, loving host and a great trip overall. A tip for future travellers: make sure you have a car rental in Kirishima! You can’t hike otherwise.

We just stayed a night because our main purpose was to hike in Kirishima. We wish we could've dtayed longer because our rooms were spacious and well equipped. The onsen was also a nice surprise and the decorations made the place feel unique and cozy.
