The staff were very attentive and helpful and the decor in hotel was modern and comfortable. I liked the free coffee machine in the shared space and the washing facilities were useful. There is a nice walk up to the crater of Mount Kannabe just behind the hotel.

Overall a great location it's walking distance from train station and next to shops and restaurants. They even held our bags after checkout so we could wander around the next day. The room came with dinner and breakfast, and it was delicious. It was a traditional meal with so many courses, we counted 10 for dinner. We ate downstairs in their dining area, it was perfect. We all got our own yukata robes to wear around town with wooden sandals, but you can wear your own . I suggest you bring our own as wooden ones are not the most comfortable. Purchase at this hotel gets you entrance to all 7 bathhouses. We loved going around the nearby shops and bars in the evening after dinner.
Beds are very comfortable and they even put a pot of ice water in our room for the evening, which was a wonderful touch.
Note, our room was on the 3rd floor with many stairs. Something you should keep note of if you have mobility issues. People mentioned the noise level in the reviews, yes you can hear hustle and bustle of town but it was worth it. We would return again. This place is a gem!

My friend and I stayed in two very comfortable Japanese-style "washitsu" rooms. One room even had a garden view. The Higashi Fujitatei House is steeped in history and it was a very quiet and relaxing property. The bathroom had a deep, retro-style tile bathtub which was great for a long soak in the evening.
The hosts gave us a ride to and from a nearby izakaya where we enjoyed a very memorable meal of local seafood and sake. They were both very kind.
Just before our departure, we were given a tour of the entire residence and a history lesson on the storied past of Higashi Fujitatei.
