This is a new Route Inn, very close to the Shimanami Expressway and across the street from an Aeon mall. The facilities were exactly as expected, with the room slightly better than a business hotel. Breakfast is included and is pretty standard for these types of hotels. However, I stayed there the night before the Cycling Shimanami 2024 ride which allows bicycles to ride the expressway, which is closed to vehicles for the duration of the ride. Route Inn normally opens breakfast at 6:30am, but because many cyclists were staying there and needed to leave early, they opened breakfast before 6am. It was highly appreciated. In addition, they were allowing bicycles to be stored in the rooms, which was also appreciated by all the cyclists. Good job, Route Inn.
JRクレメントイン今治 is situated in Imabari, 17 km from Kawara Museum and 17 km from Kawaranofurusato Park. This 3-star hotel offers a shared lounge and a 24-hour front desk.

Good option for overnight stay after finishing the Shimanami Kaido. No frills, compact room but comfortable enough and a selection of free alcohol in the evening.
Great base for riding the Shimanami Kaido. We rode for 2 days returning by ferry, with our bikes, from Habu. The town and port are easy to get around and the tourist information at the train station was excellent. We stayed near the station where there was a great choice of restaurants.
We hired a car in Imabari and did a quick 6 day tour around Shikoku. Great size city for a base in Shikoku.

When we booked we thought we were staying inImabari city.
When we booked we thought we were staying inImabari city. Because the address of Wakka is Imabari rather than Omishima island. So our only view of Imabari city was from train station and bus. Foreigners Need to know that you have to catch a bus to get from Imabari city to Wakka.

I have been to Imabari twice.
I have been to Imabari twice. Both times after cycling from Onomichi.
It was summer and very hot.
The town itself is not bustling. Castle is worth a visit. The shopping arcades in town are run down and lot of shops closed. I did not visit other areas of town so do not know if there were very nice areas where people hang out.
As a stop to visit the islands its has a port where you can catch the ferries and we took one with our bikes on our first trip to go back to Onimichi, or the island next to the town and cycle from there. Gateway to other cities on the island good transport links.

I stayed in Imabari the night before I cycled the Shimanami Kaido cycling route. Overall not my favorite place in Japan. It seemed like some people there are not accustomed to foreigners especially at the onsen I went to. It's a pretty small place so it's easy to get around with a bicycle. It seemed most stores close pretty early. I remember the whole town being very quiet.

I had a great experience at cyclo no ie.
I had a great experience at cyclo no ie. The staff are passionate cyclists who promote cycling and associated infrastructure in the local area. An absolute must stay destination for any cyclist who plans to ride the shimamami trail from onomichi.
