Fantastic room with a view on the castle! Also walking distance to the castle and the station. Great location! I also liked that instead of just putting amenities in your room, they have them at the desk and you take what you need.

Very close to the Shinkansen station and we could walk to the castle, great friendly and helpful staff. breakfast was a very nice surprise they seemed to have everything. comfortable room if a little dated. but we would stay again and I had no complaints. it served the purpose as a stop over perfectly. I didn't go the the public baths but my son said it was clean and relaxing.

The breakfast menu was the same everyday. I am Muslim and had limitations with some meal. There was only pork sausage, why not chicken sausage? It is important to consider the multi choice.

super nice to spend a day and a night, or even just a day.
super nice to spend a day and a night, or even just a day. I was doubting whether to stop or not on my way to Hiroshima, at the end we booked one night and it was a great decision. I wouldn't have stayed longer.

Himeji has always been a favourite place to visit.
Himeji has always been a favourite place to visit. This is my 3rd or 4th visit. In cherry blossom season, it is nothing short of spectacular. In winter, it's not so green, but the gardens are still worth seeing and wandering through. The castle itself is worth every cent of the entry fee and one could easily spend 2 or more hours exploring all the nooks and crannies before even reaching the 6 floor castle. Climbing to the top is must, but remember you will need to take off your shoes (and the stairs are more like wide rung ladders, so hold onto the rails!
The eateries are also worthwhile visiting, with plenty of choice in the area between the station and the castle. We visited a Vietnamese restaurant at lunchtime - it was huge and totally empty apart from us, and the food was fabulous - we chose banh mi which was just as good as in its' home country.

Loved arriving on the train and as we exited the station in the evening all the Christmas lights on the wide Avenue running straight from station to the lit up Himeji Castle in the distance..just stunning. The castle is amazing and a beautiful garden alongside it. Lovely to stroll around.

I have been here so many times.
I have been here so many times. The castle, Himeji Central Park, the aquarium.... there are so many wonderful places to visit, and at the same time, it is full of terrific shops and restaurants. I don't think there is anybody who would NOT have a good time in this pleasant little city.

The castle exceeded our expectations.
The castle exceeded our expectations. You can access the entire castle and grounds and it is more beautiful than any photo I'd seen of it. Also, the multitude of alleyways and shops is lovely, safe and fun
The hotel is a bit far away from the Himeji JR station (15 minutes walk from station and 30 minutes walk from Himeji jo). Suggest to take the shuttle bus or TAXI. The ohuro (Japanese SPA) is really amazing!! There are a lot of onsen pools you can enjoy and there is a sauna room. The front desk service is really kind and helpful.
I stayed in this hotel with my family (including kids 4 and 7). The location is really good, a walking distance to trainstation, center, castle… Breakfast was diverse: both Japanese and internationl (it took some time for our kids to get used to Japanese food so they really liked the breakfast in this hotel).
Hotel Monterey was fantastic to stay in, 2 rooms for our family of 5. Really clean, friendly, helpful staff and fantastic location close to east street & quick walk to the castle & train station .
Great location and clean, comfortable facilities. 5 minute walk from the station. Perfect (and cheap) base for visiting Himeji Castle and Engyoji Temple.
