We enjoyed our one-night stay at the Mizno Hotel. The staff (particularly Tokei) was very friendly and spoke English. It is in a great location with a complimentary shuttle from the bus station to the hotel at certain times of the day. The hotel is located up a steep hill just across from a bus stop.
The view of Lake Kawaguchiko from our balcony (and their rooftop terrace) was fantastic, even on a very cloudy day. The room was very clean and comfortable.
Their breakfast was delicious and elegant. They have complimentary coffee and tea in the lounge all day. We also took advantage of their free and well-maintained e-bikes, bicycling all around the Lake and the large Oishi Park along the way.

Good for a relaxing one or two-day trip.
The air is refreshing and there are many nice parks where you can relax and enjoy the view of Mt.Fuji if the clouds are being cooperative.
A lot of great hotels to relax at and excellent restaurants.
I am not sure the Fuji Five lakes transportation pass is worth it unless you plan on changing locations quite often and plan to stay several days. Unlike the Hakone Frepass, it does not include any ropeways, only the buses and trains.
Kawguchiko is easier to drive around and access with a car than Hakone. Fujikawaguchiko feels less cramped and more open than Hakone, which is a bit more nestled into the heavily forested mountains.

While I like the elaborate furnishing and comfort of the hotel, a warmer and friendlier staff service would have been good. In addition given the price, shuttle service to train station should not be limited for only check in and out. Overall not really value for money if one expect better service.

The hotel was well located along the lakeside, but the carpark was away from the front of the hotel. We had a slight difficulty with a fellow guest, who deliberately blocked the last remaining carpark lot, by refusing to let us park our car. He stood in front of the lot, daring us to knock him down. Hence, this experience left a bitter taste of an otherwise acceptable experience in Kawaguchi.

We had never been to Japan before and if you type into your computer "which is the most popular destination in Japan", it will tell you Mt Fuji, so we decided to go. So did 10 million other tourists!!!! It was a busy place especially around the bus/train station.
You have to visit the mountain, but watch the weather otherwise it could be a wasted trip as we found when we reached the 3,000 m mark on the bus with rain and thick cloud cover so no amazing views. Avoid the tourist shops as they are a "rip off" price wise, and once again expect lots and lots of tourists.
The place we stayed was the cheapest non dorm accommodation we could find in the area and it was good value for money with a great host, so would recommend staying there if you are on a tight budget. The room was small compared to European room sizes, but the private bathroom and toilet were great, although access to the room was difficult with large suitcases up a spiral staircase.
There is a shopping mall 10-15 minutes walk away with a selection of places to eat (Italian, Chinese, Japanese, burger joint) . The bus trip on the Red Line to the lake(s) area is a nice half day trip and cheap.
All in all, if you have never been before, GO, it's well worth it, and a direct bus service from/to both international airports.

We rented a car and drove from Tokyo to Yamanashi and for us it was perfect. We were able to see all 5 lakes in one day going from one to the other in succession.
The restaurants in the area offer a great variety of sushi, izakaya and bbq. There is also a great Omakase restaurant nearby the hotel called Fresh Water that offers a different experience to the usual tried and tested.
On the day of our departure back to Tokyo we decided to swing by Fuji Q Highland with low expectations - the theme park is legit with a great Naruto Village, high octane rollercoaster rides and from our own experience a great haunted house that lasts the majority of an hour to walk through.
Loved it. Would definitely revist the entire area.

The hotel is a ryokan, allowing you to have a traditional Japanese experience. We had a lovely tatami room with a view of the lake, and finished our stay with a massive Japanese breakfast in the dining room. We didnt find time to use the public baths with the Fuji views. There is also an observatory room with a view of Fuji. The staff were helpful and super polite. The surrounds are so peacefully quiet. Our room here was probaby as big as 3 of our other hotel rooms combined!
Near to Oggi bus station. Hotels provide free shuttle service to the train station frequently which is very convenient and money saving. Breakfast included and is very nice. For the price you are paying, it is recommended for anyone that planning to have a budget trip.
Great location, just in the main activity centre of Lake Kawaguchi. This is a small Japanese-style ryokan hotel and offers very personal and hospitable service, Both breakfast and (Kaiseki) dinner were good though not offering exquisite ingredients.
The hotel is located in a popular area where has access to public transportation, besides, hotel offers free shuttle services from nearby train station to hotel.
There's more than enough parking spaces for guests who drive to the hotel
Near Kawaguchi lake, great view of Mt Fuji from my room, Family Mart just downstairs, shower room is best, great japanese style beds with tatami, helpful staff to arrange taxi for us, bus stop in front of hotel.
