The hotel room has a magnificent view. We can see the grass field and sunrise in the morning. The hotel room is excellent, neat, clean, comfortable and tidy. The staff was nice and helpful. We went for the horse riding tour the other day and the staff were happy to explain the horses to us.

The host is very sweet and accomodating. He will share his tales and he wants to hear about yours as well. The host really made this experience for us, from hand-drawn maps to offering free snacks and drinks. The location is rather quiet as well. You can really bond with other guests thanks to the bonfire at night.

Appreciated the bag of rice from the hosts as well as various information such as the nearby hike. There are only two Western single beds, more travelers will have to enjoy the futon instead.

We loved our stay at Tsuruya. The ryokan building is very charming, and full of character. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, particularly the ladies that served our breakfast and dinner. Speaking of the food, the Japanese breakfast was totally wonderful, such a lovely experience eating this dressed in our yukata, that were in the room. And the room was lovely: spacious, tidy, clean, well-furnished, and the balcony with private onsen was such a treat. We would highly recommend you stay here. If you do, do book the set dinner.

Great views. Great trip. Only disappointment is the blue "lake" in Nakadake Crater. All the pictures show the "lake" while to my understanding it was destroyed during the 2016 earthquake. It was what drawn my attention to this location to begin with, so it was disappointing not seeing it. All these pictures should be replaced with what currently is there, not what used to be there.
Jumping from 3 to 4 stars has been a great experience. I liked everything, especially dinner and breakfast. The classic japanese style room was pleasant and peaceful and the mountains view was gorgeous. The onsen is of course a plus and there is a shuttle to the train station. I don't see what could be better than this . Better to book half board because there is nothing nearby to provide food. Unless you have a car or book a taxi. An absolute awesome stay.
- Very close to the Aso Station (<5min walk) where you can get trains but also buses to reach the different parts of Mt Aso.
- They propose a booklet with local restaurants and things to do
- Discount tickets for the public bath nearby
- Lovely shared spaces with books, music, a space to work, a fully-furnished kitchen. You really feel like home.
- Vista on the mountains from the rooms and balcony
Room was big and clean. And about the only hotel in Aso.
Staff were accommodating and allowed me to change room as the first one was very noisy with multiple tour groups staying.

location, next to the Aso station. large room size. Nice area with a coffee machine, microwave and oven to make up for lack of dining facilities. Free parking.
