The hotel, service, and rooms greatly exceeded our expectations! It was probably the nicest place we had stayed in Japan. Highly recommend staying there! There was even an Lawson at the bottom which was very convenient, and good restaurants nearby.

Definitely a walkable city.
The habrour area is relaxing and peaceful and if you're lucky you'll come across a music festival or two. However like most other rural places in Japan most shops close early however ther are still a decent amount of izakayas for the night owls. Would highly recommend breakfast or lunch at Furukawa Market Gyosai Centre for a seafood donbori as well as checking out the cute cafes in the area.
The Nebuta Museum is a must as it is Aomori's staple Festival to marvel at the huge floats. It's also the perfect acitvity to get out of the heat in Japan's humid summer.
If you prefer to just explore the seaside prominade offers a relaxing stroll while the side streets provide some cool photography spaces for urban photos.
For more culture check out the Showa Daibutsu Buddah. This is outside of the city centre but the surrounding rice fields and forest contrasts against the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Staff are friendly and can communictae well enough in English. The place is also not crowded with tourists so it is still somewhat of a hidden gem.
Aomori is also the perfect based from which to take daytrips to the surrounding areas such as the coast and mountains.

Aomori City does not have a lot apart from th Nebuta museum and the art Musuem but it's a pleasant city and the bus service is excellent.
From Aomori City there are plenty of day trips to make either by train or by car. Such as Hirosaki castle, Hirosaki Art Museum, the Gone line to Juniko & bus to Aoike, many spas like at Asamushi or around Mount Habkkoda.
The tourist office is very well organised and friendly.
You could spend a whole week to see the whole prefecture u=in detail.
Will go back to explore the Pacific Coast next time.

There wasn’t much to see and I’d skip next time and head straight to Hakodate or Sapporo. We stayed after riding the Resort Shirakami train to Hirosake to see the castle. Most of the restaurants were closed and we could not find a place for dinner. We grabbed snacks at the convenience store. We had to take a local train to the Shinkansen the next day which added to our trip.

The San'nai-Murayama Stone Age village museum site on the outskirts of Aomori was amazing, with many fully reconstructed thatched dwellings; very atmospheric!
Slightly further south west of the town is the spectacular Hirosaki Castle, with arguably the best cherry blossom display in Japan, (mid April).
Framing almost every photo there will be the astonishing Mount Iwaki, which looms sheer out of the landscape behind the castle. Easily as stunning as Fuji.
The coast road to the west of Aomori is beautiful and rugged, with a shoreline onsen pool at Fukaora.
Aomori has the best seafood anywhere south of Hokkaido. Try the uni!

I came to Aomori for the Nebuta Festival.
I came to Aomori for the Nebuta Festival.
It is a great, spectacular event. Perfect for families.
The Nebuta Museum has some great exhibits that gives a flavour of what the festival is like - but without the drums, fireworks and atmosphere.
Unfortunately I booked too late, and only could get a room for one night.
If you want to see this, make sure you book early - as the accommodation sells out quick during the festival.

If you staying in the city and planning to visit nearby...
If you staying in the city and planning to visit nearby hirosaki city
you probably need no more than four days to do everything
first few important things to say
public transportation it's very different from Tokyo trains are not rapidly moving from one city to another
in transport in the city it's not very common it's bases but walking will be the better choice anyway because it's a small city
I will highly recommend the number one restaurant in aomori that have the nebuta show name : Takakyu Nebutanokuni - literally people coming from all over Japan
the staff will try their best to communicate with foreigners but remember at least the minimum required Japanese will help you there
(in general outside Tokyo and Kyoto English is not common at all)
important to say that aomori like sappro have the freshest seafood in all around JAPAN
and few of the main attractions in the city Aomori
( the famous build your own bowl market - A factory - nebuta museum and the Main St ) - two days
hirasaki main attractions - two days
( just google tripvisor hirosako XD)
visiting around winter ? I highly recommend renting a car and driving to the nearby ski resorts not only you'll be welcome bye unforgettable views of snow in the horizon but an amazing ski resorts that I will highly recommend
BTW I visited around mid Mars and skiing is still available around those times of year !
I took effort in writing this down and I wish I could get I review like that when i was planning to visit hope it will help you !
(I couldn't provide photos but I wish I could do beautiful city with beautiful scenes and things to do )
I can recommend this accommodation! The staff is very kind and friendly, though they don't speak English. I booked spontaneously the night before my arrival, it worked fine. They had an onsen I sadly couldn't use because of my schedule. I liked that they had many vending machines, you had to take off your shoes to go to breakfast, Japanese breakfast, really great!
Apart from the negative aspects I have mentioned, the room was fine and I would book it again.
Really near to the station. Its a cute accommodation. I like the tatami mat room. The stairs is quite steep imo. Wont really recommend for those who have suitcases. There is only one shower but it can fit two people. The owner mainly speaks Japanese but she has a kind welcoming vibe.
Rooms were good. In-hotel coin laundry. Inexpensive beer & alcopop vending machine. The hotel is nicely decorated. I would certainly stay here again. It's close to restaurants and bars, and about a 15-minute walk to Aomori station.
Just a short walk from JR Aomori station. Near bus station. Plenty of restaurants and convenient stores near the hotel. Hotel staff are friendly and courteous. Breakfast is good with plenty of choices.
