The hotel was only a short walk away from the station. The room (including the bathroom) was nice and clean. Breakfast was fulfilling, from Sukiya, which is located on the ground floor. The staff kindly helped us get a taxi in the early morning to get to the ferry terminal for Sado Island.

The Niigata Grand is an older but still beautiful hotel. The rooms were very comfortable and VERY reasonably priced. The breakfast was excellent - whether the Japanese or Western version. The location is also great. Any easy walk across the Bandai Bridge to shopping and restaurants and a quick cab ride to the Shinkansen station.
One of the staff was a native English speakers and was extremely helpful.
Bottom line an excellent value and a wonderful stay.
