What a beautiful classical hotel this was! All of the staff were exemplary; always friendly and accommodating. The location is very easily accessible from Milan. The Lecco area of the lake is very nice, away from the craziness of the famous towns but still easy to access them on day trips.

The view was stunning. The perfect hotel for a quiet getaway with a beautiful view. All of the staff were really friendly and so helpful, going out of their way to provide a good experience. The food in the restaurant was excellent.

It’s 15 min away from Varenna by train. I loved this place. You can get beautiful views of the lake and mountains just a minute from the stay. The village is quite giving a peaceful experience for you. Breakfast is simple and filling. I would love to come here again.

In a good location. Pleasant helpful people running the show and a very satisfactory breakfast. Access directly behind to a car park which was important for us. Will stay there again.
Valmadrera is located on the east side of Lake Como.
Valmadrera is located on the east side of Lake Como. This means that it has sun in the morning and doesn't feature long sunny and warm evenings. If you are into the latter, better stay in Lecco because it is on the sunny west side of the lake.
The view from Barè over to the mountains and to Lecco however is grand and reminds of 18th century romantic paintings.
There is a vast amount of hiking paths right in the backyard of Valmadrerera. Since we were there for just one night, we treated ourselves to the hike no. 6 to the little chapel that is half way up the mountain and features breathtaking , similar two the ones in Barè but just from higher up. It's a splendid 80 minutes workout in easy but nevertheless spectacular terrain.
We were there in mid February and experienced the first signs of spring. The place is most likely to be splendid all year round, due to the spectacular landscape, the beautiful architecture and the abundance of seemingly pristine nature.
It's an ideal place to go for a romantic couple's holiday, or for a hiking holiday. Of course it's ideal to combine these two options :-)

First of all I had chosen the wrong train station which was Como San Giovanni (from Milano Centrale) In fact if I had chosen Lecco station everything would be easier for me. I stayed for one night. Next time I plan to stay much longer, 5-7 days.
Please please arrange your car in advance before arriving. It is difficult to find a car and even if you do it costs you a fortune for vain. That is why I prefered public transportation and instead of going alone Valmadrera is a place to enjoy with friends and beloved ones. It was like hidden paradise.

We found the restaurant at the hotel Baia Di Pare to be excellent. Mainly serving pizzas and pasta but also a variety of seafood and meat dishes - all beautifully cooked and served on white linen. Every member of the restaurant staff was friendly and helpful. We throughly enjoyed our visits.
Another favourite was the ice cream shop a hundred yards from the hotel. Lots of lovely flavours and truly delicious.

A small town on the shores of Lake Como very handy for getting the ferry to Bellagio and with some very decent restaurants (one - the recently open 'Alteregocafe' - outstanding). It's a bit cheaper than some places, so a good alternative to the better known towns. Also very handy for Bergamo Airport (60 mins), though Milan is accessible too. (Avoid Monday mornings!)
Location is superb. Next to the lake with stunning breakfast views from the terrace over the lake and mountains. Breakfast was served with the eggs preferred and fresh juice. Staff was extremely helpful and even the car park was organised by the staff in front of the hotel although the parking place was full. Very clean and funktional hotel. We stayed first only one night and after second night elsewhere (driving around the lake Como) we had to return to this hotel as it was so ❤️. Warmly recommended.
Big thanks for reception girl- very polite, wellcoming and takes care abou guests. location easy to find on foot /by bus from Lecco, safe place, clean. Big , clean shared shower + hair dryer. basic breakfast-coffee, toasts, croissants.
From outside ir looks like old bar, but rooms are really comfortable for hikers or business trip, if you are planning to spent time outside. very good value for money.
Beautiful smaller hotel on the lake with amazing views. Very quiet and relaxing area away from tourist spot but still close enough to drive or get the boat. Breakfast included has so much food to choose from. Had lovely dinner next door at the restaurant. Hosts Christina and Carlo are lovely, always making sure everyone has what they need. Would definitely stay here again.
Astonishing location for breakfast. The beach is beautiful and exclusive for hotel guests only.
