Rooms were very nice, good size with all we needed for our stay. We were able to use the hot tub (not very hot) and hang out wherever we wanted on the property. Breakfast was very good, lots of choices.

We expected luxury in a uniquely rustic environment and we weren’t disappointed. The view from our room window was stunning as was the view from the restaurant terrace. Candle light created a warm atmosphere. But the highlight was the quality of the service. A positive culture which was contagious amongst the guests. Thanks to all. We ate at ala Locanda each night and were very happy with the diversity and quality of the menu. We hiked to Rocca Calascio, drove to the observatory and walked, had lunch at the refuge on Campo Imperatore where we BBQed our meat bought from the refuge. On the way back to Rome we visiting L’Aquila, the sophisticated capital of the region.

It's a jewel!
It's a jewel! Shame that it is dominated by three cranes at the moment as they are rebuilding the medicean tower, distroyed by the 2009 earthquake (yes, very slow activity!)
Go to the nearby Rocca Calascia, parking nearby is limited so better to go before 11am; the walk to the castle is rocky but worthwhile. Fantastic views of the mountain range around and the valleys around.
Book a restaurant for the evening as they get quite busy in Santo Stefano. We ate at the Bettola di Geppetto in the centre of the village and the Locanda del Palazzo at the bottom, just outside the village, both very good and with character.

A lovely hill town.
A lovely hill town. Much, much better signage---and---signage placement--- is needed for everything! Even with "directions" from 3 different people we couldn't find the trail head for the hiking path from Santo Stefano to the Rocca Calascio. Also, it was very difficult to find the reception for our hotel because of the lack of clear and well-placed signs.
Don't let that discourage you from visiting---just keep it in mind. It is a bit of a challenge. But, Santo Stefano is worth the visit.

Our hosts were lovely and were willing to help with anything we needed. Lucca took time to explain the history of the palazzo as well as the area. All of the breakfast items were sourced from their own properties or locally. This area is authentic and spectacularly beautiful. Rocca Calascio is worth the hike.

Explore guest reviews of hotels in Santo Stefano di Sessanio
The residence is located in a strategic position for visiting the Gran Sasso National Park. Santo Stefano di Sessanio, one of the best-preserved medieval towns, is just a 5-minute walk away, while the highly regarded tourist attraction of the Castle of Rocca Calascio is easily reachable via a trail.
The residence is housed in a 17th-century building, which is a plus. The staff is extremely kind and accommodated all our requests. The restaurant is excellent, the best we tried in the the region.
The property is a renovated farm. We had a living room/ kitchen and good bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and warm, the breakfast nice with home made yoghurt and cakes. The bedroom was in the loft with rather steep stairs. This was fine for us but could be a problem for less agile people, especially if they need to get down to the bathroom at night. The welcome was friendly, parking on site great. Santo Stefano di Sessanio a great little place to enjoy is right next door.
Santo Stefano di Sessanio is an incredibly beautiful historical village in the mountains. The fact that our accomodation was located just in its heart was a nice surprise at the beginning and over time became a huge benefit as evenings on the terrace looking in the scenical centuries-old alleys with mountains on the background are amazing. It was also great that the house does not need air condition as it keeps its temperature naturally.
The room, the hotel restaurant and the village were exceptionally beautiful. The room was fabulous and the reception / hotel staff were efficient and welcoming.
