There are excellent bicycle paths and it’s pretty flat for riding miles safely. Buy tickets for local bus services at the tabac and validate on bus. There is a coop where you can buy bread, cheese and ham and water for a cheap lunch.

Its a lovely small town with great restaurants and bars but not noisy or overcrowded when we visited in October. It was still hot enough to swim. We also hired bikes and you can easily cycle for many miles along a cycle path along the coast to Viareggio and beyond

Located in the middle of Versilia with the bustle of Viareggio and the sophistication of Forte dei Marmi 5km to the south and north MDP has it's own friendly vibe with a lovely stretch of beach (private) and a centre (Tonfano) with plenty of restaurants, gelateria and bars plus shops. Don't miss the Saturday market and visit Capriccio for the best ice cream and Da Carlino for a great meal but you'll need to book ;-)

Second trip here, once in May, shoulder season, perfect!
Second trip here, once in May, shoulder season, perfect! July is HOT and more people but the magnificent little coastal town is all you want in Holiday. Good food, wonder beaches, good shopping and easy access to the train and bus to the rest of Italy, if you want to leave! Forte di Marma is a 15 minute bike ride (great bike lanes) Viareggio is a 20 minute bike ride and Pietrasanta itself 10 minute bike ride. Rotation of large public art pieces is a treat!

If you are a tourist it is difficult to figure out this town...
If you are a tourist it is difficult to figure out this town. Menu’s are rarely displayed outside of restaurants, you need to go inside and find a waiter to see if they have a spare table, even on weekdays every restaurant seems to be fully booked until at least 10pm, most restaurants serve the same dishes which is seafood variations, and the waiters don’t speak any English or appear to favour locals over the few tourists. Restaurants by the beach are more expensive - gnocchi was £28 in one of them! I’d advise asking your hotel to book ahead restaurants for you if you see some you like and check what time siestas are as we stayed for five days and could never get in any restaurants before they seemed to close at midday. You’ll need to be a good walker to get from one side to the other - our hotel was in the middle and it was around a 40 minute walk from there to each town and a 20 minute walk to the nearest supermarket. I’d advise hiring a bike or a car to get anywhere. We felt five days was enough for us - the food was nice but expensive and we’re not big fans of seafood, and the beach is around £30 to rent beds for a day. We weren’t informed of any attractions to visit so there was little to do other than sunbathe at our hotel.

beautiful freshly renovated hotel at the Ligurian Sea. Room was spacious and definitely bigger than in other hotels in this part of Italy. 24-hours reception. lots of parking possibilities around, beach in 100m from the entrance. Very good and stylish breakfast. Gentleman who checked me in was a very kind and sweet person, very welcoming.
We sadly couldn’t stay at hotel Gemma del mare as they had some unexpected work being carried out they very kindly moved our booking to a near by hotel who added breakfast to our stay. Unfortunately the other hotel was not very nice and very very dated inside however the staff were exceptionally helpful and the breakfast was nice
Welcoming staff, very good breakfast. The family rooms are a bit small, no ekstra seating except for the beds, but I guess it is what you can expect for a three star hotel. It is clean. Perfect location, close to restaurants and beach.
Super location across the road from the beach. The breakfast is unbelievable for a 3 star hotel. We had a family room which had two separate bedrooms which was ideal.
Great location, close to the main street and the beaches. Very friendly and helpful staff. Easy to park for free nearby the hotel. The hotel had bikes for the guests.
