La Spezia is one of those typical cities of the Liguria Region where colourful houses cover hills and cliffs, providing panoramic views over the sea. Thousands of years of history and a heart open towards the sea have shaped the character of this town surrounded by the 'Cinque Terre'.
Located on the coast of the namesake gulf, its proximity to Genoa has greatly influenced its development and culture. Take a walk uphill from the harbour, and admire the display of architectonic styles in the Old Town. Some of the best hotels in La Spezia are located here, while elegant guesthouses and villas with gulf views can be found in the highest areas.
Must-see sites in the city are the 13th-century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St George’s Castle. The ‘Sea Festival’ is organized every summer, and its highlight is the rowing competition ‘Palio del Golfo’, a race between the 13 villages of the gulf. Departing from the port of La Spezia, boats can take you to the enchanted ‘Cinque Terre’.
The harbour is a 15-minute walk from La Spezia Central Station, and Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport is 105 km away. While planning your trip, check out Booking.com’s accommodation deals in La Spezia.
La Spezia is quiet, clean and safe place to stay. It's easy to move there both by public transport and by foot. There are plenty of restaurants with affordable prices and good food. Great spot to visit other attractions in Golf Dei Poeti.

We only had a couple days in La Spezia.
We only had a couple days in La Spezia. We took a cab to Il Monticello winery, which is fantastic! We also did a day of Cinque Terre on the hop on/hop off train. Well worth it! We had a sunset boat tour planned, but rain cancelled it. We wish we had more time to visit beaches and shop. Farmers market was fantastic!

It is not your usual touristy place but has great access to Cinque Terre Tours and is well connected to Tuscany and Genoa. The old town is full of great shops that sell high-quality goods at very reasonable prices. Lovely seaside walks and the opportunity to do plenty of sightseeing, and the town felt really safe. We had amazing pizza, amazing coffee and a wonderful time.

Easy access for trains, marina to take ferry up the villages of Cinque Terre and then took train/trails back. Taking ferry up affords great views. La Spezia offered a variety of restaurants and was less frenetic than staying at most of the villages of Cinque.

La Spezia is a great centre to explore the area.
La Spezia is a great centre to explore the area. The town itself is a working town, some good shopping and great nightlife. We should have gone on a tour or something ourselves to get the history of the town but we din’t have enough time as we were exploring the area of the Terre and south of La Spezia. It was a central location for us to explore and it suited us well. Get a boat trip to the 5 villages if you’re doing this, you get better views of the landscape, although train is probably quicker, but if training it, get a return, the queues are long at the smaller stations.

La Spezia is a vibrant city with many attractions, including the castle, markets, and port. There is an excellent regular train service to Cinque Terre and ferries to Porto Venere and Terrizzo. As it is Italy, there are always restaurants and cafes nearby, as well as good supermarkets and pharmacies. When I left, I was already yearning to return, and I definitely will, as there is far more to explore and enjoy. It's worth a visit.

We had a lovely stay. Fantastic view and terrace. It is situated in a very quiet area just outside of La Spezia. You will need a car to get around as there are 3 km to the train station if you want to go hiking the Cinque Terre. We parked the car at the station.
We were able to check out rather late the day of departure which was very kind of the hotel.
We had the hotel to pickup groceries for us so that we had a fridge filled with food upon arrival. Great service!
I suppose, breakfast is in the same format throughout Italy, as we stayed in Rome, Florence & La Spezia. Room was definitely large and spacious. I had a free parking inside the hotel premise which is excellent as the Blue Line parking though cheap in La Spezia are still paid parking. I used EasyPark application for the payments and it picks up based on the car location and zone.
The Poet is a very welcoming, fresh and modern hotel situated not too far from the train station. We checked in early and left our bags with reception. The room was large, with a nice comfy bed and all the facilities one would require. Only a short walk down into the town centre, so a great location for exploring La Spezia (which is an absolute gem).
Located at walkable distance from La Spezia Central station. The rooms were exceptionally good with amenities which aren’t available in many European Hotels. Washing Machine and terrace came as bonus. Will totally recommend to others.
