Fiumicino is best known for its access to the Eternal City through Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport. Despite this recent claim to fame, Fiumicino includes several archaeological sites around the ancient harbors of Ostia and Portus. It's also an important fishing center and summer resort, especially along the beaches and coves of Isola Sacra.
Hosting the busiest airport in Italy and the sixth busiest in Europe, the town has grown in a series of services that fit with these suburban functions. Examples are the Fiera di Roma conference center, or the Parco Leonardo recreation center.
The town of Fiumicino is 20 miles from central Rome, while Da Vinci Airport is 19 miles away from the Italian capital. The remains of Ostia Antica are less than 6 miles away.
Like many airports in the world, you can find hotels in Fiumicino Airport directly on its premises, providing effortless access to your flights.
Since most Fiumicino hotels are in the Isola Sacra area, you might get the chance to enjoy the Tyrrhenian beaches and the tasty Italian seafood.

Great place to escape the hustle and bustle of Rome yet still be able to enjoy many nice restaurants, cafes, wine bars, etc. Ideally located near the airport (FCO) for easy in and out when enduring a long layover.

Not what we expected at all.
Not what we expected at all. The area by the river is fabulous. Lined with shops, bars and restaurants. We ate at Tarumbo, which was superb. Quick morning coffee and pastry at Pasticceria Patrizi as well. It was full of locals, which is usually a good sign.

I loved walking along the pier at sunset.
I loved walking along the pier at sunset. All the fishing boats just came back from the day on the sea and were selling their catch right there to the locals. Very peaceful and authentic experience. Then had the best seafood risotto I have ever had at a locals restaurant

The people were authentic small town italians.
The people were authentic small town italians. The were friendly and happy to chat with us tourists. The water front is a bustling fishing boat dock yet it was safe to wander through and observe the action and the beautiful scenery.
The loacal laundry was only too happy to do our laundry at a bargain price of 15 euros for a suitcase full of clothes. Came back clean and neatly folded.

So far, it was easy and pleasant to have a travel through Fiumicino Airport. Plenty of Information Posters/Banners, clear direction signs to the Terminal and gates. Nice service and great food at Bottega del Prosecco Restaurant at the Terminal 3.

Fiumicino is a fantastic little town.
Fiumicino is a fantastic little town. Situated next to Fiumicino airport, so it is an excellent place to stay at the beginning or end of a Roman holiday. It has loads of cafes, and restaurants and a fantastic beach which is lovely to swim in. It is situated at the mouth of the River Tiber and a working fishing port, so you can watch the fishing boats and all the fishermen (and women) fishing off the wharf at the mouth of the river. I don't think it has a great public transport system, but taxis are pretty cheap and easy enough to book. It is about 30 mins west of Rome on the train, so easy to get to. When you get there, you need a local Fiumicino taxi who will take you into Fiumicino - for about €40. Fiumicino is laid back, and the pace of life seems slower than in Rome. I love it for a wind down time and I definitely, 100%, will go back there.

I wish every hotel knew how to host their gests like this one.
Getting there from the airport took less than 5 minutes by taxi. The room has everything you need, a good bed, good shower, professional hair dryer (ok, you don´t need this, but you have it), and is spotless clean.
Katty was so kind to leave things for us to eat, even though we would miss breakfast for leaving at 4 am.
If you need to stay in Fiumicino for whatever reason, I recommend this place!
The Hosts were so lovely and gave exceptional service. Extemely helpful. Rome Airport Inn located in a central location to beautiful beach, marina, great restaurants, cafes, shopping mall just 15 minutes away and 15 minutes from Airport Fiumicino. Breakfast at the Inn was the best.
There is an acheaological site 10 minutes away from hotel in Ostia Antica which is the largest in Europe and is a must visit.
An example of a great hotel.
Everything was clean, staff very helpful, breakfast is really good and option of airport shuttle was useful.
Train station is right in front of the hotel and a train will take you to city center in around 30 minutes, otherwise Fiumicino airport is just 5 minutes away by train, so location is also great.
Definitely would visit again!
Best airport hotel I have stayed in near Fiumicino. Friendly, helpful staff, reasonable accommodation charges, large room with comfortable bed and large shower. Lovely green outdoor area with pool and tennis court. Perfect to relax with a cool drink from the bar after a long flight.
It's a very nice hotel, clean, with a very helpful staff. Breakfast was very good, cakes were tasty and coffee as well!! Very close to the Fiumicino airport. Bus shuttle is only 6 euros and it goes until 22.30. In 7-8 minutes you are in the hotel!
