The hotel is really lovely with a nice courtyard. There is no bar or amenities but there are some nice communal spaces inside and out to sit in.

The location was great: in the heart of Ferrara, close to the cathedral and the castle. The bed was comfy: soft yet sturdy. The shower was powerful. Both the room and the bathroom were quite spacious. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was wholesome with both savory and sweet choices and if you ask for a cappuccino or an espresso or a glass of juice, these are provided; otherwise, there is just cafe americano, which was fine for me.

Ferrara was a haven for the arts during the Renaissance and much of this is still evident today. The powerful Este family held court in the multi-turreted Estense Castle, protected by a moat and drawbridge, and they were illustrious patrons of artists and authors.
Bellini, Piero della Francesca and Titian all perfected their strokes here, and the university houses parts of Ludovico Ariosto’s original manuscript of his epic poem – Orlando Furioso – containing allegorical references to his sponsors. The family is also depicted in Palazzo Schifanoia’s detailed fresoces, and the Palazzo dei Diamanti gallery displays works commissioned from the School of Ferrara.
Some Este tombs are in Corpus Domini Monastery and another is in the ornate cathedral whose three-gabled façade overlooks the crenellated town hall. Both line Piazza di Trento e Trieste, the main square where locals come to socialise. Another popular square is green Piazza Ariostea.
The Este strengthened their position through marriage alliances with the influential Borgia, Medici and Gonzaga families, but they didn’t have it all their own way. Ferrara’s well-preserved city walls were built for defence, and ardent opponent of the Renaissance, Savonarola, was born in this UNESCO World Heritage city.
Surrounding cobbled streets house many luxury Ferrara hotels, cheap apartments and B&Bs near the train station, available on Booking.com.
Ferrara is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The main part of the buildings in Ferrara is built in the Renaissance style. The Este family, which had an important position in Italy, made it a point to build an exceptional city. Ferrara is still surrounded by walls and is thus protected from the outside world. As if thanks to this, it was possible to preserve the atmosphere of ancient times. In addition, there are many beautiful parks around Ferrara, making it a unique place to relax and study interesting historical attractions.

Ferrara is a small city, but with a lot of history, especially the building's from the Este family. We spent three nights there, and enjoyed our time in the city, and the restaurants we used, but we felt three days was enough.

A small compact old city that was easy to get around.
A small compact old city that was easy to get around. We enjoyed a range of activities including the archaeological museum, Palazzo Schifanoia, Palazzo dei Diamonti, the Castle and the Cathedral among other sites. Easy to get around on foot. Lots of places to eat. The train station is off to the site of the old town. Easy train access to other major cities as it is on the main route to Venice. Also local trains to Ravenna.

The house is perfect in every way - immaculately clean and traditional. Laura is kind, helpful and so welcoming that you could never wish to be anywhere but here. There is everything you need for the perfect stay in Ferrara among friendly people with everything nearby, Laura and her guests even helped me with my Italian. This is more like a family home atmosphere and it's the best place we've stayed in all the years we have come to Italy and we cannot wait to return. You will really fall in love with it here. Thank you so much, Laura.
