Celano is a wonderful old town in the mountains of Abruzzo, Italy. Touring the Piccolomini Castle is a must. The ancient castle, built in the 1300s, its museum & walking through the cobblestone streets is a look into a medieval era long gone. The people are friendly and you'll find many locals that speak some English. We, also, enjoyed hiking in the Celano Gorges. I'm planning on traveling to Celano again.

We found the accomodation to be excellent (a couple). - comfortable & well appointed. The video the owner sent was really useful in finding the place. There is free onroad parking, although the narrow lane presents a bit of a challenge. Having said this we managed to find a convenient spot. The views from the upper & lower terraces were breathtaking. The photos do not do it justice. The accommodation is on two levels, with the main bedroom upstairs. This may or may not suit families depending on the age of the children. There is a short walk (20m) up to the front door which could pose issues if one has mobility issues, but generally it is fine. Celano is a delightful, historic town. There is not a huge amount to visit but we enjoyed strolling aroung the alleys & castle precints. The Castle is well worth a visit. We would have liked to have explored the outlying countryside but we visted during a heatwave so it was impossible to venture very far. We had a fabulous meal at the Locanda Madonna delle Vigne - local food & wine at a reasonable price. We would definitely return to this accommodation.

It has a picturesque midieval section which was fun to explore. The museums located in the much restored Piccolomini Palace were interesting as were several of the local churches, all within an easy walk.
The owner is very nice and friendly. Everything was very clean and there is a great view out the window of the room! I was here during summer and even though it was over 30 degrees Celsius outside, the room was still cool. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Celano.
