Boldens is really pretty and quiet, with a busy shopping street with lots of small local shops and a scenic old town on the hill with amazing views. Bolsena is a traditional town where the shops are mainly open in the morning 8-1pm and then closed till 5-7pm, most restaurants only open at 7pm for eating out but some do lunch menus. The lake at Bolsena is great for swimming, sand on the beach is dark and dusty (volcanic) and there are 3 different free beach areas. The water was warm in July, gravely at the shore but then sandy a metre or so out and gradually gets deep so safe for kids, we swam every day. We loved our time here as it was so quiet and pretty

The lake, the boulevard and at the end the pot of gold...

The lake, the boulevard and at the end the pot of gold manifested as an absolute great coffee bar. Finishing your stay at the beach stroll through the Allee with plantanes and hortensia's towards the city. Yes it is a challenge to climb to the castle, but you are rewarded, just do it! Then downn again and enter the newer part through the gate and sit at the square with the beautifully fontain. Interested in more? Go back and walk towards the church and drink an essepresso and enjoy the Italian life, passing as a movie.! Hungry? Along the lake Casa Patricia, La Gabbiano serving good food, on the square la mora abit more styles. In town the unbeatable pizza at LA Francigena with the best actress in town as servant. Indeed Bolsena has it all!

    What a beautiful place!

What a beautiful place! The perfect combination of a lovely , small Italian city with a stunning lakeside panorama. We especially enjoyed the opportunity to walk along the lake shore. Great choice of restaurants and bars. The castle is well worth a visit.

A nice medieval small town with much to see and with a very nice, mostly car free town centre. The castle with a local museum, the churches, the ruins of the Roman predecessor town, the lakeside area and harbour are all worth a visit. Extending on both sides of the central sqare, the main street is a pedestrian zone with lots of shops and restaurants. There was even a Ferris wheel at the harbour! There are public buses (Contral) connecting to Viterbo, Montefiascone and a number of smaller towns, and an early morning connection (Busitalia) to Orvieto. All at bargain prices, tickets can be bought at the kiosk in the town center. Even if it runs early, the bus trip to Orvieto is highly recommendable! It starts from the main square, the others from the bus stop near the post office. Only the connection to Bagnoregio, operated by a local bus contractor, did not work out as the internet schedule was wrong. There are a number of walking paths in the vicinity - a well marked pilgrim route to Rome goes through Bolsena. We also walked a bit along the lake shore in southern direction; in northern direction, the path ends at the end of the town area. Boat tours on the Lago di Bolsena are theoretically possible, but there seems to be no organized schedule. In summer, bathing in the lake at the beach should be nice, but at end of April, it was a bit too cold.

an ancient and intersting small typically Italian town.

an ancient and intersting small typically Italian town. Excellent places to eat and drink, friendly people and, of course, a beautiful lake. This is a place to visit for sure. Stay somewhere between 3 and 6 nights to get a proper flavour of the place.Take a walk to the top of the town (steep but worth it) and reward yourself with a glass of wine when you get to the top at one of the many excellent wine bar/delis. Two restaurants stand out. La Francigena (for its pizza and traditional ham hock called Stinco) and La Tavernetta for its pizza and pasta with fish from the lake. They are inexpensive for the quality of food. Drive around the lake to see the antique towns of Montefiascone and Capo de Monte. Have a walk along he promenade at Marta. Continue your circuit and have lunch at one of the lakeside restaurants near the ad hoc marina ten minutes west of Bolsena. Its a lovely way to spend a day. At Bolsena there are a number of lakeside bars and restaurants all of which are good value and a great place to unwind. The lake is very safe to swim in. It is very shallow for some distance from shore so is great for children and weak swimmers like me. Very refreshing on a hot day!!

A very charming small italian city with very attractive view of the lake at the sunset. Food in the restaurants is good and value for money is also goo there. The evening life at the square near the lake is live with several nice bars and the seatings really close to the lake so that you can even wash your feet there. Another remarkable cisty Orvietto is also in the short driving distance.

This property is located right on the shores of Lake Bolsena. It is extremely quiet and very private. The house provides everything you need for a comfortable stay- we even had ripe figs to enjoy from one of the trees! It is about four kms from Bolsena so a car is essential but the location is excellent for day trips. The address given on Booking.com is a little misleading but our host Roberto met us on the roadside. We thoroughly recommend this place.

The location right next to the lake is wonderful and the breakfast had many choices. The room was really clean and housekeeping obviously take pride in keeping it this way. we particularly thought the people working at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, especially Fabiana.

It's the location that makes this place a winner. The yard has an amazing view of Bolsena lake. It feels quite remote, but was surprisingly easy to find, even though we arrived after dark.
