Travellers who stayed in Bologna near Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) have said good things about Hotel EMI, Hotel Del Borgo and Villa Aretusi.
World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered better than in this medieval gem.
Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look out for ragú on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savour their food, so a meal can last for hours.
Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops can be found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage listed. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views over this red-roofed city.
The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square are the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088 and home to the city’s best museums.
Bologna accommodation on Booking.com ranges from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

We stayed 5nights to have a break after travelling for about 4 weeks. Maybe it was our apartment which was a bit disappointing but 5nights too long in Bologna. Not too much to do, however it was an easy train ride to Florence & lake garda which were highlights of our Bologna visit.

Bologna’s medieval center is truly captivating, with historical buildings that seamlessly blend stories of the past with a modern future. Visiting the old library and the anatomy chamber of Bologna University was a highlight—the rich history and intricate decoration were fascinating, showcasing the human drive for knowledge and discovery. The Basilica di San Petronio and the Basilica Santuario di San Domenico offered deeper insights into the city’s history, adding layers to its cultural identity. Exploring Bologna’s heritage gave me a better understanding of its vibrant and enduring spirit. It’s a city that invites you to learn and be inspired.

Beautiful city, full of enjoyable sights, friendly people and excellent food. We stayed for 3 days and it was the perfect amount of time to get lost and wonder in the streets of the old city, eat a lot of food and visit some of the more accessible museums and churches. The airport is super close, you can hop on a monorail called the Marconi Express, and it will take you right near the city center with just 12.8 euro/trip.
The city center is not a big area to cross, so you can reach accommodation quickly after that and leave your luggage. Make sure you then find a nice restaurant and enjoy an Aperol Spritz to set the mood and enjoy getting lost in the city's magical narrow streets.

If you want to taste the best food, less tourists more locals and a university city thriving with young people you must put Bologna on your bucket list. The city has around 40 km of porticos so you can move around whether it rains, snows or its windy or sunny. The historical center is very compact.

I book the Almarossa whenever there is availability when I go to Bologna. I like the apartments, I like the location, I like the staff at reception. There is a handy laundry room, public transportation, supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants and shops nearby. All places of touristic interest are within walking distance, and the university quarters are nearby. Central station is also reachable on foot. I will continue booking this hotel when available on my futures trips to Bologna, because I feel at home and comfortable here.
The great pros of this hotel is location, 5 minutes by walk from train station. The hotel is big with a lot of rooms and it feels like quite old style, I mean the room style and furniture. But it was ok for me as there was air conditioner and fridge. I've chosen not so right time to visit Bologna as weather was very hot so I spent a lot of time in hotel and waited my flight back home. Overall, it worth staying here if you plan to use train to visit other parts of this Italy region.
Everything was perfectly well organised and clean.
Very friendly maintenance staff.
Rooms in perfect condition, modern, comfortable and with a well equipped bathroom.
A very central location, just a few steps from the Bologna main train station (where also the Marconi Express monorail train from the airport arrives and departs). Cafés and restaurants close by and city centre in walking distance (15 min)
This is the perfect hotel. I stayed as I was travelling on business to attend meetings at the University of Bologna. The hotel was conveniently located to my meetings, lots of restaurants, cafes and shops nearby. This is proper Italy - not a modern built hotel which could be located anywhere in the world.
A 10 minute walk into the centre of Bologna, which felt extremely safe. Also with Bolognas proximity to the airport the hotel was only 20 mins from the airport which was very convenient. Room was lovely, comfy bed and the room was nice and cool on an evening. Breakfast was really good as well.
