Biella was an utter surprise and a serendipitous find.

Biella was an utter surprise and a serendipitous find. It was not one but two "old town centers" -- Piazzo, up on the hill, where the palaces are, and Piano where the old merchants had set up town. A free, self-operated funicular connects the two. There a beautiful villas throughout the merchant quarters, and delightful restaurants serving local fares at decent prices. Interesting sites are within 20-30 minutes of driving, including Santuario d'Oropa; at an hour or so away, Valle d'Aosta and its fabulous fortresses and castles.

The stronger touristic point of Biella is the nature, the city center is nice and you can enjoy some restaurants, but besides that it is a city for chilling and going hiking more than exploring monuments and museums.

What a beautiful city and surrounding areas.

What a beautiful city and surrounding areas. So much to see and do, much of it just a short drive away - for instance, seeing the Black Madonna at Oropa, visiting the mediaeval castle in the city, eating the best ice cream I've ever had in the gelaterie next to the tourist office ... Looking forward to coming back and venturing further afield, for instance to the great lakes, only an hour or so's drive away.

Communication with host (who was not there) was very good from the beginning. Check in was smooth. The flat was tastefully decorated and well furnished, roomy and spotlessly clean. Biscuits and coffee capsules for the Nespresso machine were provided. It's located in the city centre, in the nicest street in Biella. If you come by train, better ask how best to get to the flat from the main train station. We happily walked, about 20 mins to the flat.

Hotel Michelangelo is an exceptionally welcoming and comfortable hotel, conveniently close to the railway station. Our generously sized room with balcony was very quiet. The staff are delightful, helpful and friendly. The breakfast is outstanding! Every element was totally delicious and service was very good. We cannot praise it too highly. We loved it so much, we have already booked to stay again!
