It was simple but clean, great location, cozy environment
Hotel Des Geneys offers free parking, and rooms with free Wi-Fi and mountain or garden views. It is in Bardonecchia, next to its private park and 800 metres from Campo Smith ski slopes.
Exceptional location and a superb variety of food.
Bardonecchia is a ski resort in need of a lot of investment.
Bardonecchia is a ski resort in need of a lot of investment. The resort consists of only drag lifts and chair lifts (of which only one has a hood and none of which are heated). The chairs and drag lifts are very slow to get up the mountain and so you spand ages getting up to the slopes.
At weekends the resort is full of children learning to ski which is fine. But they often fall over getting onto chair and drag lifts, further slowing up an already slow system.
On top of all this the resort faces north so doesn't get any direct sun until about 13:00 which makes the resort very cold and icy, especially in the morning.
The resort also claims to have 100km of pistes. I would really love to see evidence of this. I skied every run I could find on the Saturday (some multiple times) and SkiTracks said I covered 35km.
So, Bardonecchia is a cheap resort, but what you get is not a great experience given the alternatives available nearby

The cabin lift from the hotel down to Bardonecchia was convenient but expensive at 11€ pp, we thought perhaps that the hotel would have offered a discount for it's guests. They had free buses to take you from the lift to all areas of the town. Beautiful flower boxes decorated the town 🤩. Sadly, a mud slide hit the town on the night of 8/13 and closed the lift for the rest of our trip 😔 The hotel didn't offer any type of shuttle service. To be fair, they were understaffed. Sadly, that seems to be a recurring problem in restaurants and hotels now 😕

Easy to get to from Turin by car or train.
Easy to get to from Turin by car or train.
Very reasonably priced restaurants although few choices. Cuisine Royal was great with really nice staff.
Sizeable town but few facilities. It appears to have lots of holiday homes that remain empty.
Some signs of faded glory. Few signs of recent investment so it feels a bit run down. Ski area is reasonable size but lacks character and interest. Many mountain huts but few with real character.
Ski rental shops were few and poorly staffed.
Overall, worth trying for a cheap last minute trip if the snow is good

A beautiful small town, offering amazing mountains views.
A beautiful small town, offering amazing mountains views. Every house in the city is made in a particular style and makes it unique and cosy.
A great experience for first time skiing trip. Most amazing is that the ski resort is actually located in the city and not somewhere outside where you can't get without a car. Here - Bardonecchia is only 1,5 h from Turin by train.

The owners and staff of this hotel were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. The bed was comfortable and the evening meal very good value, personally served by the chef. We were offered a huge room with plenty of space and the property has an efficient lift. We wree told that the hotel has recently changed management and it is evident that a real effort is being made to offer a pleasant stay to all guests. Parking outside on the square is very easy and the hotel is within walking distance of all that Bardonecchia has to offer.
It is a very beautiful and up-to-date appartment. The owners are very friendly and helpfull. The kids loved the quality of the sofabed. The bathroom is large and very well equiped with shower, toilet, bidet, washing machine and washing bassin. Overall a lovely place and 'home' to come back to after a day of skiing.
Well laid out; easy to find; good equipment and facilities. Clean and well organised kitchen with most things you’d need for a week.
Nice shower, 2 toilets. Handy for supermarkets, buses, skiing, etc.
The hosts were easy to contact and helpful.
Location was ideal - short walk to Campo Smith for skiing and the bus to Jafferau.
The host was quick at responding via WhatsApp.
The apartment was warm, and the fire was a lovely touch during the snowy evenings.
Very spacious apartment, well located both in terms of access to ski lifts and the city. Comfortable parking on premises, quiet green surroundings, mountain views. Double bed was comfortable. Friendly owners.
