The staff was very professional, friendly, and helpful (big thanks to Nello and Thomas), breakfast was generous and varied with eggs/beans, cheese/ham, yogurt and granola/cereal, and assorted pastries. The second larger room we stayed at was highly functional and stylish. Finally, the view from the breakfast balcony is lovely — could have spent the entire morning there.

We loved the Amalfi coast visiting both Capri and Positano...
We loved the Amalfi coast visiting both Capri and Positano from our base in Amalfi. It has spectacular scenery and there's lot's to see and do. From a quality, service and value perspective, our best dining experience was at Trattoria da Maria in Amalfi. The local duomo in Amalfi (Cattedrale di Sant’Andrea) is definitely worth visiting. Capri offered the most spectacular views with it's soaring cliff faces and amazing vantage points.
Travellers should be aware that from early November, a lot of towns on the Amalfi coast are shutting down after the high season which means a lot of retail outlets and restaurants are only opening a few days a week and some already shuttered for the coming Winter. This was particularly evident in Positano and especially Capri where less than half the retail and restaurants remained open and most of the major hotels had already closed. Your transport options (buses and ferries) also become more limited over this time with fewer services to the surrounding towns. Luckily, we found our hotel staff at the Palazzo Don Salvatore were of great assistance in managing these logistical issues. Driving around the Amalfi Coast is very challenging if you're not a local. Take a ferry instead - a lot less stressful and so much easier. If you need to get somewhere by car, private transfers cost around 150 euros per hour.

Beautiful city perched on cliff overlooking the bay.
Beautiful city perched on cliff overlooking the bay. One should spend 2-3 days in Amalfi with driving to Positano, Ravello and Salerno at leisure. The drive along the coast is beautiful but requires some experience to navigate very narrow roads. The people are very welcoming and helpful.

the room was very good. the entrance was strange, not like in other hotels i know. the reception is not always attended, but service is not cut. the stairs are a bit of a problem though assistance was offered. the hotel offers a good breakfast in a nearby restaurant.
the attentiveness and devotion to an excellent service is impressive. they even helped me, sending the parking garage to assist me with a flat tire. also reserved a recommended restaurant.

Comapring to Salerno, it is much more expensive. For those, traveling on the budget, Salero would be a better place to stay.
There are many bus and boat trips available from Amalfi.

Be aware of the terrain.
Be aware of the terrain. Walking to get to the square is rocky and a lot of steps with questionable safety features. If you stay in a hotel inside the square, not too hard to get around. We were all 70+ years old and found it challenging to get around.

Location is absolutely wonderful, you don’t need a car nor to travel or walk a lot and you’re in the middle of Amalfi, before the crowd of tourists, or after they are all went back to their hotels. Amalfi is the best city to stay around the Amalfi Coast and this place is the best value, beautiful hotel to choose! Thanks Andrea!
The breakfast is also very nice, no waste but delicious and everything you need! Grazie Mille!
We had an amazing time at Casa Mao. Gianfranco was so nice and attentive. He gave us tons of great recommendations and contacts. The hotel was beautiful, despite the stairs, and had an amazing view of Amalfi Coast. If we ever make it back to the Amalfi Coast, we will definitely be staying here - couldn’t recommend it more!
A good continental breakfast. I don't eat breakfast but my traveling companion did and she enjoyed it. The hotel had a lift which is perhaps unusual in the Amalfi Coast but was an added bonus!! Staff were amazing, funny, helpful, always on hand. Luca, Nello & Valeria - we miss you!
Beautiful views and great location within Amalfi town, approx 8 minute stroll to the centre. Staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Salvatore even let us borrow his umbrellas during a wet afternoon along the coast! Such a lovely stay 🩵
The property is absolutely beautiful, overlooking the main centre of Amalfi and the coast. There is abundant use of the stunning tiles and ceramics from the region. The hotel feels light, fresh and clean.
