Location was amazing, remote but not hard to reach. The conditions were right and the clouds cleared up for some amazing views of the northern lights! The breakfast was beyond amazing and the best we had at a hotel/hostel/airbnb on our entire 2 week trip. Would definitely stay here again if were ever back in the area!

Radiant heated floors in the bathroom was incredible. Staff was very accommodating and very social. Food was exceptional. Given the date we booked, we were actually the only guests in the hotel which I understand is HIGHLY unusual (apparently few travelers drive Northern Iceland in the winter we are from the Midwest USA so we decided to do it anyway). Hotel has a hot tub, that we of course made use of, they gave us robes and sandals. Breakfast in the morning was incredible. I can simply say this place was exceptional and we plan to stay here on our next visit.
Offering a shared kitchen/lounge and mountain views, Skútustadir Guest house is set on a farm by the southern shore of Lake Mývatn. WiFi and parking are free.

We loved getting the wake-up call to go outside and see the Northern Lights. The hot tubs were also very enjoyable with free robe use from the front desk. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only restaurant open in town was the one in the hotel. Visitted in mid-January. Limited menu, but the food was beautifully plated and delicious.
This is the perfect place to stay. Remote enough from city to get quiet night sleep in their comfortable beds. With in house restraunt formal enough to celebrate any event. With the cutest guard us from the sheep.

Nice getaway - quiet and cozy athmosphere.
Nice getaway - quiet and cozy athmosphere. Close to the main attractions at Myvatn. Great breakfast buffet. Restaurant offers little choices but what they have is good and homemade (f.ex lamb and trouts are home-breed).
