Cozy and clean rooms in a small complex on the 864 unpaved road. Beautiful place with no other surrounding buildings and overlooking a small river and the fields. i have to say ATS is the best stay we had in our two week vacation on iceland. we love their dining area set up. beautiful open floor plan in kitchen and each room has its own labeled container in the frig. great location to all attractions. wish we've stayed for more nights.
Spent a day and a half in the Lake Mývatn area. Loved it.
Spent a day and a half in the Lake Mývatn area. Loved it. There is so much to see and do: crater hikes, thermal baths, geothermal areas, bird watching, lava features. And just overall, it has beautiful views of farms and countryside. Both relaxing and exciting. Could easily spent another couple of days without it feeling repetitive.

A "must-visit" bird-watching location in northern Iceland, with great scenery and impressive geo-thermal sites near by. Lots of way-marked walking routes around the lake and several places to get food and shopping.

It's a beautiful lava field and lake system.
It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges.
Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths.
If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution.
Obviously it's not as nice as Akureyri, but I would say that as I live there

Myvatn Lake certainly has beautiful scenery and the weather is typically warmer than the coast. For the full service/hotel travelers I would recommend Fosshotel. For campers there is plenty of accommodations.

So much to see and do in this area!
So much to see and do in this area! Thankfully we were up and out just after nine! We packed in so much! Lots to see down the eastern side of the lake. Each activity offered us something different and unusual that we hadn’t experienced before. The thermal baths there, although smaller than the Blue Lagoon, are much cheaper and actually offer senior rates. Two pools, one warmer than the other and one sort of large hot tub area. Well worth the money! The cakes in the restaurant there and the coffee were some of the best we’ve had and are reasonably priced. They also have larger meals and soups on offer.
The hotel was nice and everything was first class, with a great restaurant. They also had a coffee machine in the lobby which had every possible coffee (latte, mocha, etc) and this was free and available at all times. The location fronted the Pseudocraters and Lake Myvatn which are amazing. It is also within driving distance of a number of attractions. The staff are very helpful, and also offer a wake up call at night if Northern Lights are visible. Hotel price also included a good breakfast buffet.
The triple room was spacious and nicely decorated. The little balcony was a nice touch that we were not expecting. The hotel has beautiful surroundings, it was still beautiful even though we didn’t pick a room with lake view, it would have been nicer with a lake view though. The breakfast was really nice.
Hotel very well placed to explore the Myvatn area. No light pollution and large windows makes it a great place to watch the northern lights. The picture attached is taken from the room. Very helpful staff who will knock on the door to alert you about the appearance of the lights. Nice breakfast.
