Apt. Hotel Hjalteyri, hotel in Artun

Located in Hjalteyri, 19 km from Akureyri, Apt. Hotel Hjalteyri features views of the sea and the mountains from every apartment. Every room has a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom.

We booked this because the apartment looked amazing and it didn't disappoint. We dreamed we would see the northern lights and watch whales in the nearby fjord from the hot tub. Dreams do come true... We were treated to an amazing display of aurora borialis from the panoramic rooftop terrace. And sat having a few beers in the hottub, listening to music watching whales 🐋 swim by will take some beating. One of the highlights of our week long ring road trip. If you're reading this book it! I can't add enough photos, so go see for yourself.

Grenivik Guesthouse, hotel in Artun

Boasting mountain views, Grenivik Guesthouse provides accommodation with a garden, a bar and a shared lounge, around 39 km from Hof - Cultural Center and Conference Hall.

Our stay was extremely pleasant. Grenivik Guesthouse has been a beautiful surprise in the North of Iceland after days of camping. We would've definitely loved to stay longer to enjoy the peace, the comfort and the landscape. The house was very clean, our room was very comfortable and big enough for two, and all the common spaces were really well organized so we had our privacy but also some lovely interaction with other guests, and the hot tub has been a very pleasant extra to enjoy at sunset. But the best part of our stay was definitely Ingólfur, the host. His welcoming was very warm and kind, he was very open and helpful as a host, he gave us a lot of tips as soon as we arrived, and prepared us a really delicious breakfast with a lot of local ingredients. Ingólfur was also very kind to stay with us during our breakfast -and even longer- to talk with us about Icleand history, traditions, culture, geography and all the curiosities we had. He has a special place in our hearts.

Gorgeous little cabin in proper woods, very cozy, comfy, well equipped. Kitchen was fantastic for both breakfast and dinner, no microwave but hob worked perfectly and overall was kitted out. Hot tub was thoroughly enjoyable in the quiet forest under the gentle snow 😁😁

Hotel Natur Akureyri, hotel in Artun

Located in Akureyri, 35 km from Godafoss Waterfall, Hotel Natur Akureyri provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace.

A lovely location outside Akureyri (12 minutes or so) set on the side of the fjord with great views of the surrounding mountains and good for northern lights if they are kind enough to show. Our bedrooms were in a separate building to the main building, were clean and comfortable with comfy beds and good showers. Breakfast was plentiful and with a good variety of things to choose from. There is a nice lounge area and a great walk down to the water’s edge. The staff couldn’t have been kinder, helping us out when one of our group was not well.

Akyureri is a short drive away.

Akyureri is a short drive away. A small town which is described as Iceland's second capital. Not a lot to do in the area. We had planned to go whale watching in Husavik, but this was cancelled due to the weather. We did go to Forest Lagoon, which I liked. Very relaxing. Cheaper than Blue Lagoon, which was not for me at all. It was too commercialised, big and crowded. The changing rooms were tiny so trying to dress was a big challenge. Forest Lagoon had far better facilities and the changing areas were substantially bigger. Godafoss waterfall also nearby and, if like me, you love a waterfall, it is a fabulous stop wit a cafe and toilet facilities.

Easy to find, properly signposted on main road.

Easy to find, properly signposted on main road. Friendly host. Privacy. Clean. Quietness. Beautiful environment: lot of green around bungalows, grass, trees, small lake. View with fjord and mountains.
