we had the best experience and would really recommend staying at green chromide homestay. On top of the room, which was spacious, very comfortable and very clean, sunaina and her family looked after us extremely well, providing delicious meals in a beautiful river-side setting, and helping us with our onward travels :) if we come back to kerala we will definitely stay here again and will recommend to family and friends!

This is the most beautiful place to stay in an unspoiled part of the backwaters. We really enjoyed just sitting on the terrace and looking out at the pretty garden and the colourful wild birds that visited. The early morning boat trip with Vishnu was serenely lovely - quite unmissable ! Pooni and Vishnu took great care of us and we enjoyed their company !

Suresh and his lovely family made us so welcome. Their homestay is very comfortable, clean and homely in a perfect position by the waterfront. The traditional Keralean natural food adequate and delicious. Unfortunately the unusual untimely weather conditions caused by the Bay of Bengal Cyclone meant we were unable to do the sunset canoe trip. However, instead Suresh took us to visit a local church in the woods with panoramic views across the lake. He thoughtfully phoned our daughter who had personally arranged everything with Suresh and showed her where we were. The following sunrise canoe cruise was amazing, the highlight of our stay. Lasting 3 hrs along idyllic narrow backwaters to a picturesque lake quietly watching the abundant wildlife amidst lush vegetation whilst enjoying the solitude.
This homestay on Monroe Island is a MUST VISIT to this unspoilt area. Truly breathtaking.

Munroe island is a nature lovers paradise , the vegetation and bird life is fabulous. It is very quiet and relatively clean . It’s very nice to walk around and not be confronted with fast moving crazy drivers . There are many places you can walk through the village life.
It’s a great spot to go on a canoe trip through the back waters .
If you have the need to escape the hustle and bustle of Indian life then come to Munroe and chill

Devika, Jithin and family are SO kind and welcoming!!!
I’m a female traveling alone and felt very safe and relaxed at their guest house/ Homestay
They were super helpful and acccomodating!
The food Devika cooked was delicious.
The room is separate from their house and has its own bathroom.
The property is very clean and very well maintained and looked after.
I can highly recommend taking out the wooden canoe for sunrise! Babu the father in law knocked on my door at 5.30am to set off.
It was so peaceful and tranquil.
The surrounding backwaters and lakes are breathtaking and Babu was a great guide…… we even stopped off to watch the sunrise which was stunningly beautiful and also stopped at some shallow waters for a morning swim and on the way back, we stopped to watch ladies weaving rope from coconut husk.
I can highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay surrounded by beautiful nature.
Thank you so much to Devika and the family for such a lovely stay xxx

Very peaceful.
Very peaceful. Backwaters and lake more beautiful than Alleppy and much quieter. You come here for quiet, and to be surrounded by nature. Dont come if you like lots of activities. You can go boating, which is a lovely experience, but there is not much else to do.

Beautiful view at sunset and night with a winding road in the middle and the lake on either side. the boat journey in the lake will lead you to the famous mangroves. You can climb them and experience their strength. the scenic beauty cannot be put into words, one should experience it. It's a great place if your are interested in photography. We wished to enjoy the food of Toddy shop, but couldn't as they are open till noon only. Tasty food is readily available in the hotels at munroe. If you travel in a vehicle of your own, getting around Munroe is easy. In my next visit I will definitely arrive the 'thuruth' before sunset.

Munroe Island is one of the most underrated place in Kerala.
Munroe Island is one of the most underrated place in Kerala. People haven't heard about it much, we saw mostly foreigners on sunrise canoeing trip. It was an offbeat destination where we found so close to nature. The pin drop silence night departure for sunrise boat ride, birds chirping just before sun rises and hunting for fishes in the water, the giant Ashtamudi river to see the sunrise, the narrow canals, the natural mangrove archa, all in all better than expected! Munroe Island has resorts for stay but would recommend to stay in an Airbnb or private property, you will feel closer to the local people, learn how different their everyday life is in such a peaceful small place where people are mostly busy in fish farming, renting out their houses for visitors and developing tourism.
