Coconut Palms Village Homestay, hotel in Kumarakom

Set in Kumarakom, 48 km from Cochin Shipyard and 600 metres from Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Coconut Palms Village Homestay offers a garden and air conditioning.

We spent our last two nights in Kerala at Coconut Palms Village Homestay, and it was such an amazing experience. The rooms were super clean, felt brand new, and were incredibly comfortable. Everything about the place made us feel at ease. What really made the stay unforgettable was the owner. He was so welcoming and went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. He helped us organize a boat trip, and he even cooked us dinner twice—and honestly, the food was some of the best we had during our entire trip to India! He asked us what we wanted, prepared everything fresh, and it was absolutely delicious. We truly felt at home here, and it was the perfect way to end our trip. If you’re visiting Kerala, you’ve got to stay here. It’s a wonderful place with great people, and we can’t recommend it enough!

The local people were very kind and helpful , directing us to the different places of interest. They never tried to cheat us or overcharge. Even on walks thru small village lanes people were nice and never looked at us with suspicion.Overall a nice place with friendly people.

Lovely and beautiful place, great people and amazing resorts. You might not like the food if you are not from Kerala because of the preparation style in coconut oil, barring that it’s an amazing place.

The evening shikara ride was great for our group and was at the right price point - 2000 rupees for 2 hours for 2 families. The bird sanctuary was a big disappointment as there is not much to see and the facilities are also very poor - of the two bird watching towers one is damaged and other does not have a great view. Not many species of birds could be seen or heard, its more of a nature walk than a bird sanctuary.

As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise.

As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise. As the gates shut the noise and hustle bustle of an Indian town were left outside. The beautiful old buildings in heritage style, lovely garden with trees and the only sound that of birdsong. It didn’t end there. All the staff from Vaisakh the Manager, Amal the Chef, the lady helping in the kitchen and the lady constantly sweeping the floors and working in the garden were helpful, courteous and always had a cheerful smile. The two men were happy to enter into conversations with us when they were not busy. They also responded immediately when asked for anything. The food was delicious and well cooked but they found it amusing that we couldn’t handle the chillis in some of the dishes. The pool was clean and cool and very welcoming in the heat. We spent a very happy and relaxing week at Brookside Heritage Resort and it was the best place to start our Kerala adventure after a long and arduous journey from the UK. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in a property that gave us half-board meals (dinner and breakfast) and had in-house activities such as a sunset boat cruise and an evening cultural show. All this reinforced the kerala theme and made for a wonderful experience.

The backwaters are unique with water lilies and a wide variety of birds that can be viewed in a Shikara at dawn. A houseboat to spend the day and enjoy local cuisine served using fresh fish caught and sold by fisherwomen on the banks is a fabulous experience.

The location on a former coconut plantation by the lake is idyllic. There is a complimentary sunset cruise on the lake in the evening. The traditional Kerala architecture is very beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pool and the garden with beautiful trees and flowers are very well kept. The chefs are doing a great job at offering a broad variety of delicious South Indian and North Indian cuisine. Desserts are a treat.

Location was very special, right next to Lake Vembanad. Reached via a 5 min canoe ride from the hotel’s car park. Incredibly peaceful spot overlooking the lake watching the bird life ( saw more birds, eagles, egrets, kingfishers than the local Kurmarakom Bird Sanctuary!) All Staff super friendly and helpful. Very nice large, clean pool. Meals good. Wonderful sunsets!

The hotel is nicely decorated in wood and beautiful landscaping. The lake view is very relaxing and we enjoyed the sunset cruise. The daily tea and snacks were very appreciated. Staff were friendly. A shout out to Suraj for always being available and doing everything to make our stay enjoyable and to Praveen for always providing a friendly service with a smile.
