The village is quite pretty with many old houses. It is clean but in August quite busy. Traffic can be slow moving through the town. The beach was disappointing but Portmarnock beach a couple of miles south is very good. There are many restaurants which provide a variety of choice although there is a preponderance of Italian dishes. The views out to sea are good and walking around the town is interesting.

I'm not familiar with the area, trip was for a wedding with a couple of days added on. Transport was slow. Nowhere locally to leave a suitcase on departure day. The train station officer allowed us to leave it for a few hours.
We enjoyed a tour around Malahide Castle and a stroll around the gardens.
Lots of pubs if that's your thing. I don't drink.
Not knowing the area I am unlikely to visit there again. However, if you want a base for travel into town, it's fine. Travelling inland is tricky unless you travel by the Luas on the old line towards Sandyford.
We got taxis everywhere as the wedding was nearby, as were a couple of family visits. If going out, definitely plan your travel to reduce frustration. It is cheap though and taxis are not extortionate either, as fares strictly by the meter. Just book ahead if on a deadline :-)

The hotel expansion programme since my last visit is astonishing but it retains and has upgraded its regality without charging an extreemly high fee. Since it was too late to eat in the hotel we walked into the village and just scraped into a useful take away venue closing at 11 pm. Expectations that we could have had the food delivered to the hotel were unfounded but we enjoyed a late night drink to accompany the food on our return. This is a wonderful but not stuffy hotel with most agreable staff.

We ate at Siam Thai both nights.
We ate at Siam Thai both nights.
Food was delicious and service was excellent
The following are merely suggestions.
Increased designated access ways for pedestrians to access the beach
and additional seating placed at regular intervals on the coastal walkway to Portmarnock.
Best Irish breakfast cooked by the lovely Eithne...fresh fruit...yogurt..cereal..tea..coffee..lovely. Friendly couple with a huge plot with rooms to share their home. Eithne will look after your needs and Gerry will undoubtedly show you his bar and excellently kept and served Guinness. Like any Irish people they will talk to you for hours and give advice on where to visit. The rooms are nice and clean and warm. Short walk into town. Sauna would be good guys :)
I have stayed in The Grand Hotel Malahide on many occasions. As always the hotel lived up to expectations, I always find it very clean, all staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. We had lunch upon arrival, lunch was delicious. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.
Beautiful room - lovely décor, spacious, comfortable bed. Close proximity to Dublin Airport (10-15 mins drive) which was perfect for us as we were flying out next morning. Several eating places in Malahide village a short drive away. Highly recommend.
Comfortable,well equipped.
Downstairs has a living/ Kitchen area plus bathroom. Upstairs is a bedroom.
Very good location close to Malahide Castle/ park and a 25 minute walk to town centre and Dart.
