Super cute little farmhouse BnB! Hosts were so kind and helpful. Breakfast was so yummy. Sad it was raining so couldn’t see all the farm critters.

So serene and quiet. The facilities were pristinely clean. Johnny was so accommodating and made us a superb Irish breakfast. Our kids have nut allergies and Doris who also runs the B and B checked with us ahead or time to help to ensure safe foods for our kids. Location is not far from Athlone. Beds quite comfortable. It was a great stopping point between Dublin and Galway.

Beautiful site a bike ride away from town. I woke up and took a walk to see donkeys and farm animals near the camp. I wish I had planned better and could have stayed longer.

Lanesborough is a boring town with few facilities and average pubs. There is now a decent coffee shop where the butchers was, but of course there is now no butchers. There is a mini supermarket which is OK but nothing special. The saving grace is that it is on one ‘corner’ of Lough Ree so has water frontage and nicest views, but they don’t make the most of it. The blot on the landscape is the disused power station that looms over the town, the sooner that is dismantled the better. Locals are pretty friendly and welcoming

Really lovely area along the Shannon where it opens into Lough Ree. Lovely coffee place called Lanesbrew. Lovely restaurant called the Wooden Spoon. Couple of pubs. Lovely walks along each side of the river and a forest walk. There is a Supervalu in town for shopping. No bank and needs pedestrian crossing Lovely lively marinas and a great boat trip with 'access for all' allowing those in wheelchairs have access to being on Lough Ree. Everyone friendly. Fairly central on Longford Roscommon border so great as a base to explore. Great spot and easy to get to. Everything in town within walking distance. Big downside is a huge power plant which is ugly but modern. You do stop noticing it but is not pretty.

Lanesborough is a small, friendly town with all the amenities you would expect. There are bars which serve food, takeaways, cafe and a supermarket. We ate in Farrell's Bar and the food was reasonably priced, very appetising and a good portion served. The town is more a place to base yourself while travelling around and exploring the surrounding areas. The roads are great and it's easy to access lots of local towns. Probably better suited to older adults looking for a quiet getaway rather than younger people or families. Plenty of opportunities for fishing and there's a local walk into a nearby woods which is worth doing.
