My last visit, and stay overnight was about 20 years ago. When I stayed 1 night on 3rd Sept 2024. I see much development, tidier and cleaner. Thanks to the local people and the government. However there are a lot of home works to get Semarang rated equivalent with Singapore for instance. I am expecting cleaner tidier safer city and prosperous citizen.

Staying at Ibis Style Simpang Lima , is a good decision. Close to every where, the front desk her name is Noni she is not just friendly but she a big help . She recommends us where to go to get good tasty local foods.

Semarang is a beautiful historic city, with lots of old...
Semarang is a beautiful historic city, with lots of old buildings and quite a few of them beautifully reinstated and renovated. It is also quite liberal with a good mix of churches and mosques. Because of that, you do see a lot of lovebirds around and once night falls, the colourful Rikshaws ornamented with glowing unicorns and other animals lighten up the city centre.
We will definitely try to visit another time.

Lovely city, lots to do and see between the old colonial town center and the newer part of the city. Lovely buildings, nice architecture, some small parks, and typical kampong like Pelangi and Batik Kampong.
The old Dutch train station was turned into a museum, open to the public for the train lovers.
Also the recipient for the #1 cleanest city in Indonesia award Semarang lives up to its reputation.
