The location is good. The facilities are basic but okey. The food is yummy, they have a vegan menu too, but you have to order the food in advance because they are very slow.

Great hotel, located in the center of Rantepao - very good location. We spent four nights here and will come back next time. Big clean rooms, breakfast buffet. Great service, no problem with early check-in and late check-out. Hotel staff is always ready to help. I recommend this hotel, choose without hesitation.

Our spacious, comfortable, colourful room with verandah was wonderful and Sarah was the perfect host. Her cooking skills were outstanding and we had the pleasure of having dinner with her and her extended family. Sarah is a generous, beautiful person and this is the best place to stay. We also his motorbike and travelled around the area to the market and up the mountain to see the great view.

This was a 3 day total experience of a traditional culture that is threatened by western influences and fast disappearing. We were included in ceremonies with hundreds of participants doing centuries old rituals.

You should explore the countryside and the villages.
You should explore the countryside and the villages. The colours and the views are amazing. People are warm and hospitable wherever you go. They are very cultural and want to keep it that way.
The food is varied and can be delicious if you do your research before you get there.

Rantepao is a perfect location to explore the Torajah area; Torajah is a mainly christian area on a mainly islamitic Island, with very typical ceremonies, often related to death and funerals.
We took the bus from Makassar which takes about 10 hours to get to Rantepao, but it is an interesting journey.

The structure was authentic, an house on a tree. It is an experience, different than a hotel but perfect in the context of Toraja region.
The hosts were incredible! All kind, very welcoming and friendly. I stayed 2N3D, and I felt home from the beginning. Meyske and her mother prepared the guests every morning a delicious breakfast. There was the possibility to eat dinner with them (for a very low price), which was very delicious as well. The atmosphere was fantastic, also the other guests were very good people.
Sanduk offers 2 nice and clean double rooms in the ground floor and two super rooms in the 1st floor; one of them king-size. Ibra, the owner, is extremely kind and helpful. He serves a nice breakfast in a terrace overlooking a quiet neigborhood. The homestay is located at a five minutes walk to Ke Te Kesu. No problem if the center of Rantepao is at some distance, Ibra is always ready to take or pick you up to/from the downtown for free. Definitely one of the best accomodation options in Rantepao
If you are after an interesting trip to Toraja, I highly recommend Wisma Papa Tias. Pak Yacob and his family are kind and gracious hosts, and you get a good sense of what living in Toraja is like. If you enjoy the country life then you will surely not be disappointed.
Some notes: The place is a bit away from Rantepao, where most of the restaurants are located. Make sure you arrange some sort of transportation (car with driver/moped etc.) so you are mobile.
What a lovely homestay! Everything is done with love and attention. A warm welcome by the family, fantastic food, lovely rooms with a spectacular view. And no noise, only the sounds of nature 😊( in Rantepao the mosk will wake you up early in the morning, or great chance there is a karaoke bar somewhere).
Highly recommended!
