I stayed only 1 night for the airport transfer on the next morning. The room itself ok, value for money. Lobby very nice. Security & privacy A+. I felt safe staying here. Breakfast ok. Many choices too.

We needed just overnight room on the way back from Mantawai.The price was very fair and location not far from the harbour.We arrived in the evening and helpful and friendly stuff recommended a nice place to eat -Safari garden (but pick local food, not western).

Basically Padang is for people who probably finds food hunting their choice of travel. For me, going to Padang was a gateway to Kerinci, for the mountain hike. Padang in itself did not have much sightseeing places to offer but perhaps we did not take the island tours or any waterfall visits. Overall, it's a nice small place to chill and relax.

A big city with little to no immediate tourist interest but...
A big city with little to no immediate tourist interest but serves as a good place to start and end travels. There is good food options but a little difficult for anyone not familar with Padang to access the information. The city have a beautiful but undeveloped waterfront. A friend who is knowledgable says the city is becoming cleaner.

Padang is My wife's hometown,, so this review might be not objective.
This town is famous with it's culture, and the roof of the houses which they call "Bagonjong".
Padang itself is nice, with a great scenery from "Bukit Barisan" mountain and "Batangarau" estuary. You can also learn about Local urban legend such as "Malin Kundang" and "Siti Nurbaya"
But other places around Padang is also noteworthy, such as Bukittingi and Padang Panjang.
The Conclusion is,, Padang is worth a visit. You should spend 1 or 2 week there in Sumatera Barat.

The people are very friendly and kind and we'll soon miss the foods.
BUT, this may not be the place for a vacation where you want to rejuvenate yourself. It's just very hot and humid, and way too crowded around the town center. Kind of disappointing too because the town is quite dirty.
Also, be careful when choosing a place to stay. A 1-star hotel is just like a run-down motel and a Syariah motel doesn't mean Smoking is prohibited.
Instead of Padang, head to Bukittinggi ... this I recommend.

Very beautiful and tranquil spot just outside of Padang city. The view here is unbeatable and the staff is hands down amazing. Rooms are standard but very try comfortable and clean. Owner and staff are very friendly and happy to accommodate you with all your needs. They will give to advise on places to go and see around Padang or help you to organise your trip.
Best thing is to have a nice cold beer after a long day and enjoy the stunning sunset.
The view, the location, the staff and the cleanliness. You have a great view overlooking the river in Padang also close to the fast ferry station to get to Mentawai. The staff was very helpful as we had some issues booking a flight without a BSA, but they helped us getting it sorted which shows service of high quality.
We had both dinner and breakfast here and it was delicious. Definitely recommend staying here while in Padang!
Cosy stay for 1 night, walking distance from China Town, restaurants and cafes. The hotel also have their own restaurant and beer garden, really lively. Room was tiny, but comfortable. Good shower and all good in general, no issues
A very good new upper-mid-range hotel. The staff are well trained. Hotel is new so everything is clean and functional which is a rarity for hotels in Padang - let’s hope hotel management can keep it this way
