Wonderful spacious apartments. Well renovated. Wanda and Spyro very helpful. Great base for many beautiful hikes.

A relatively small very friendly hotel, in a quiet area, 2 minutes walk to nearest taverna, 5 mins to town and 10 mins to sandy beach with great facilities.
Hotel On the Rocks enjoys a privileged location right next to the beach. It is a short walking distance from the centre of Paleochora.

A superb location as it was a 3 minute walk to a small beach which had the cleanest water I’ve ever experienced in my global travels. A 5 minute walk the other direction and you are in the middle of a multitude of dining options. Our room had full sea view. The complimentary breakfast was the best computed breakfast we had=ve experienced in 20 hotel stays in Greece. Front desk staff were very helpful

Maria & Giorgos are such a kind, hospitable, considerate couple, and their hotel is what I think of as the real Crete: simple, spotlessly clean, homely, welcoming, peaceful. Don't expect luxury. There's something far more valuable than that here...
Located in Agia Roumeli, a few steps from Agia Roumeli Beach, Agia Roumeli Hotel provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a private beach area and a shared lounge.

Perfect place to stay after walking the Samaria Gorge. Quick check in. Lovely room with a view of the sea. Sun loungers on the beach free for guests. Breakfast in the beach bar amazing! They call it their hikers breakfast: bacon and eggs, lots of pastries and cakes and fruit and yoghurt.
Providing free WiFi, Casbah Boutique Hotel offers rooms in Palaiochóra, 500 metres from Halikia Beach and less than 1 km from Keratídes Beach.

So spacious, spotlessly clean, friendly helpful staff. It was an apartment, so had a kitchen living room and long balcony. Also the biggest bed we have ever slept in! It was in a great location, by the beach, just minutes from everything. There’s not many places we would return to, but we woukd come bqck here in a heartbeat.

Sougia is a lovely, small resort but has plenty of places to eat and drink, but not much else. It is perfect for sun-worshippers and those who prefer a quieter holiday (though there are a couple of music bars). It's great if you are with friends as I was, especially if you have access to a car, though some of the roads are a bit of an adventure. It's not ideal for families as the beach is steep at the waterline so unsafe for those who are not good swimmers. There are busses and water taxis to other places but land travel always means going up a mountain and back down again. Plenty of walks in the area, but the heat and terrain make them challenging. Well suited to "serious" walkers. The sea was wonderful, clear, warm enough and uncrowded.

A very scenic drive from Chania, especially via the Omalas route, (slightly longer but worth it). The town is tiny. 200 or so residents, but still manages some excellent restaurants. There is good walking, particularly the popular trail - one and half hours - westwards to the archaeological site at Lissos. Alternatively, one can arrange a boat to Lissos, for a few euros, either one way or return. At 0830 a longer boat ride can be arranged eastwards along the scenic south coast. Evening beach walks at Sougia are also nice. For a more strenuous trek one might wish to visit the Agia Irini Gorge. The entrance is signposted directly next to the road 4.5km north of Sougia, with parking. It is far less crowned than neighbouring Samaria. Some 7km long it takes about three hours to walk.

It was very quiet as it is November, so end of the tourist season, but nice. The weather is still perfectly fine to go to the beach, there are still some restaurants and bars open. It's a nice little quiet place to go hike or stay on the beach without the crowds of Chania or Heraklion.

Sougia is a small village at the mouth of Agia Irini gorge, approximately 1.5hrs drive from Chania airport (we rented a car) It has a couple of mini markets and a couple of gift shops but the main street hosts mainly tavernas. The beach is a pebble beach with crystal clear water. You have access to bus, ferry and taxi services allowing you to explore the surrounding area. We have stayed in Sougia 4 times and we love the tranquility and beautiful mountainscape.

Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city...
Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city hustle. Quite the feeling of hippie lifestyle, with relaxed attitude towards nudists. The beach has both areas for people who enjoy to swim with swimwear, and without. There are several tents around the far end of the beach, and the atmosphere in bars and restaurants is relaxed.
Great place for walkers as well as those who just want to enjoy the peace and quiet. Daily ferry service, and one bus service.
I stayed in Lissos rooms which was lovely and quiet, and ate in Livikon which had excellent grilled king prawns, and the fabulous lamb and beans dish

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Markos was really helpful getting us to and from the ferry (despite it only being a short distance) and he took great care to make sure we had everything we needed. Although not on the seafront the hotel is only a short couple of minutes walk to the beach. The rooms were huge and beautifully furnished, everything was very clean and there were good kitchen facilities (although we didn't use them due to eating out). No distance from supermarket and restaurants. Very peaceful. Highly recommended.
This was our third stay at Pension Irene, so a good recommendation in its self.
Our room had a side sea view, was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed, including enough crockery and pans should you wish to make simple meals.
We loved the floral towel designs on the bed.
The family are always friendly and welcoming. their restaurant across the way serves the most delicious food.
Sougia is a laid back location, a good base for walking the Samaria Gorge.
We look forward to returning in the near future.
We stayed at monastery during the month of august for our honeymoon. Everything within the hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was fantastic both with decor and space. the pool and the view made our entire stay. But the greatest praise goes to the professional service and friendliness of the staff. We were warmly welcomed and looked after throughout our stay.
