My husband and I have been going to Paleochora for several years, usually finding different accommodations, but due to having a recent heart operation we felt that it would be safer to go to a hotel. We couldn't have found anything better than the Libyan Princess. In our time there I had to have advice from a doctor, and the staff were so helpful in giving us directions to where we could find her, thankfully it wasn't a serious problem. All of the staff were superb and the breakfast had so much lovely choices.

The location is superb and our spacious room overlooked tamarisk trees and a sandy beach and had a spacious balcony with very comfortable cushioned armchairs. We liked having a second room with a settee which we used as a dressing room with the suitcases. However, we understand that most of the rooms are at the side with no view. Also we were very pleased to find a bath and plentiful hot water.

Lovely little town, not too busy at the time we were there (early June) Great bars (we liked the Cosmogonia) and lovely restaurants and tavernas serving delicious food. Two beaches on either side of the peninsula (sandy beach on the west side, pebble beach on the east) Sunbeds were 8 euros for 2 beds and a parasol (the same as last year) The Votsalo cafe on the pebble beach was wonderful for breakfast and lunch.

I love Palaiochora - have visited several times.
I love Palaiochora - have visited several times. There is a very long sandy beach on the west side of the village - the sunbeds and umbrellas do not dominate the beach due to its size. There is a nudist area at the northern end but, sadly, it looks like the cantina there is not open this year. There is also a beach on the east side but it is stony and not to my liking. In the evening a couple of streets are closed off to traffic (but not to kids cycling at top speed through the pedestrians grrr) and the roads are occupied with tables and chairs for the various bars and cafes. There are many places to eat in the village and a wide selection of menus available. Agios bar is one to visit - definitely. If staying for more than a few days a ferry trip (40 minutes or so) to Sougia is worth trying. Gialiskari is another nice beach along the coast - about an hour's walk or 15 minutes by car.

If you are looking for a small laid back beach town in Crete, this is a greatchoice. Many of the more full service touristy options are on the north side of the island, Palaiochora is on the south. You can drive from Palaichora to Chania in less than 1.5 hours : drive to Heraklion is closer to 3.5 hours.
Plenty of beaches, good food, good people. Not really a party crowd, at least when we were there at the end of the season. There are many options for boat trips, hiking and outdoor activities. Ebikes and similar are easy to rent.

Lovely relaxed seaside town - really chill atmosphere in the evenings with lots of restaurants along the sea front and in main and back streets serving great food and generous extras (bread, olives, small desserts and raki).
We enjoyed a good balance of some hiking (Aghia Irina Gorge was lovely and very quiet), hiring a car to explore the area and a couple of days of swimming, snorkelling and reading on the beach.
I expect Paleochora is heaving n high season, but in Kate September was wonderfully laid back - a few days here and a few in Chania& Rethymno was a really nice balance.
I would stay right in the town next time - lots of small studios advertised along the road from town to harbour looked nice, quiet and close to everything

Palauochora is lovely low key resort with great food and beaches. We really like the vibe of the town which is authentic and friendly. Highly recommended for 3-4 days or longer. Really like the fact that it can be easily accessed by a very efficient bus and ferry service. We’ll definitely be back
We had a room for 2 with a little balcony and stayed only 2 nights but the stay was amazing. The host was super helpful he recommended several restaurants and bars. The communication was very amicable. The room was clean and cleaned every morning.
The building is located in front of the sea and near the city. There are several supermarkets in the area. The city of Palaiochóra is a very charming and the vibe is unique.
What a pity that we only stayed 2 nights, we wish we'd have stayed longer :(
Check-in was easy and efficient. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They were very knowledgeable about the hotel, local interests, and listened well in both Greek and English so that they were able to make satisfying recommendations for us. The hotel is conveniently located next to a lovely cafe that is open for breakfast and lunch, and it is also across from the beach. Want to shop or see a castle.... just a few minutes walk away.
Morpheas rooms is located on one of my favourite beaches outside Paleohora. These are basic rooms like most on the south of Crete. Everything is operational, the owner was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. There were a few games for the kids to play with outside. I recommend!
