Staying in Lixouri gives the visitor a taste of authentic Greek life. In the central square you can hear and see children playing, parents gossipping, old men putting the world to rights. And all over a coffee or a frappé in the many cafes.

Charming and somewhat unspoilt Greek Town. The quayside is very pretty with lots of Tavernas to choose from enjoying great views of the bay and mountains beyond. Gets busier around the lively central square with variety of bars, restaurants and shops to choose from. Very Mediterranean feel with all age groups out and about enjoying themselves. During the evening the road is closed so pedestrians and restaurant staff can walk around freely. Ample free parking either end of the pedestrian zone. There's also a ferry to Argostoli which runs every 30 mins and takes 20 mins which is very handy - wish we had a chance to do this as Argostoli is worth the visit.

Been to Kefalonia twice before but enjoyed Lixouri far more than Skala or Lassi. Lovely laid back feel to the seafront restaurants on an evening. Good selection of restaurants and bars. Was cheaper to eat out than cooking for yourself. Highly recommended. Hired a boat for 2 half days to explore around the bay and found private coves etc.

Great place for couples and families who want a relaxing time. The town has many good restaurants like Pizza Paradiso, Gonia. Gefira and others. The central square is a very lively place with many children and a vibrant atmospere. Also a nice sandy beach close to the center with a canteen, lounges and umbrellas at a reasonable price. The Lixourian beer is also a must.

We will never stay on the Argostoli part of Kefalonia again now that we discovered Lixouri!!! Beautiful place. This town is a small working town with nothing pretentious. People were friendlier and more down to earth. Food was great quality and much more reasonably priced than in Argostoli and surrounding resorts. Get a car though as the best beaches you will ever see in your life, are a short drive away. Beautiful place!

We absolutely loved Lixouri - slower paced, relaxed and quieter than Argostoli. Very easy to walk around, even for my arthritic joints. Although we arrived during a heatwave so spent most days on the beach or in the sea, we spent the evenings in Lixouri, eating out at the local tavernas and meeting the loveliest locals. The food was excellent (highly recommend Akrogialis for authentic cuisine, excellent, friendly service and very fair prices) Emily’s gift shop was great as were many of the others. Scarabee has exquisite jewellery and local art. (Also, sampling the ice cream at ‘I scream’ is a must!) Seeing the turtles just nearby in the port during most evenings was a huge bonus. We plan to return to Kefalonia as soon as we have saved up to have 2 weeks next time - 1 week was just a start for us 💜 And we will be staying on the Paliki peninsula again. Highly recommend if you want a relaxing holiday in paradise.
